service spotlight- puppy visits.

So away from the dog walking one of the services I provide at Little Happy Hounds is puppy visits / puppy care/ puppy sitting.  I provide puppy visits in the areas of Chinley, where I am based, Whaley Bridge, Buxworth, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Furness Vale, High Peak, Derbyshire. Other areas maybe covered, for enquires, call 07732265149 or visit main website

I can also be emailed directly info@littlehappyhounds.co.uk

So like most of our services this is a very personalised service. I call in to visit a young puppy, once or twice a day, break up a long day at home alone, feed them, provide company, cuddles, playtime, and I also offer praise based training, recall, bite inhibition and lots of socialising.

I am not a trainer at all so I strongly advice all clients with puppies to join a puppy training class, I have to say in the years I have been a dog walker it shows which puppies have not been to a class and which ones have.

A lot of dog walkers especially around here, offer puppy visits but do they do offer the training I do alongside my visit or is it just cuddles ? I am big believer in socialising little and often with young dogs,  every scenario going, walks in busy places, people, walks near busy roads, its important to get your puppy use to lots of different sights and sounds, I also do recall, toilet training,  socialising and bite inhibition, what tends to happen at Little Happy Hounds the puppies eventually go onto to one of group dog walks, which is really special for me as I have obviously built up a very strong bond with the puppy so for them to become my dog walking client is a honour and I find the ones that have been my puppies first, listen to me, have excellent recall and are very happy well rounded dogs.

My experience, is varied, I have read puppy training books, I recommend serval to my clients, I also have puppy experience through dog ownership and of course I have puppy experience running little happy hounds for the last 8 years I have cared for many puppies during this time.

Like with all our services, I am fully insured, we are a small local business I have no employees all the care is provided by me, I am DBS checked and that certificate can be viewed at your meet and greet upon request, all the puppies you will see in this post on this dog blog are current dog walking clients that I have had the pleasure to care for from being tiny little happy puppies !

other services include dog walker, cat sitting and pet sitting.

Good bye good March 2020.

So a lot has happened for Little Happy Hounds since my last post and indeed  the world. Last week I ceased working following Government advice and went into lockdown to stay safe and stop the spread of the Corona Virus pandemic.

Annoyingly and perhaps ironically,  business was booming, even in the face of all the new dog walkers in their bright shinny branded vans, everywhere I turn there is a dog walker these days, we even have dog walkers from miles away in different counties bringing their dog clients into Derbyshire to gain from the high peak councils non restrictive rules about how many dogs you can take out at anyone time,  these businesses are separate from mine as they about financial gain and maximising profits, I am about looking after dogs going on long walks, I never ever make a decision with money in mind !! I feel like my clients are peoples children and not a commodity item.

I was doing really well through word of mouth clients where recommending me to friends but also another dog walker also got me a new regular dog walking client, greatly appreciated, we had a new puppy, new dog walking clients several new cat sitting clients and then just like that I was stopped in my tracks by lock down.

So most the dog walkers I know and follow have ceased operation, locally but also up and down the UK, with just a few still going, it was predictable to see who would still keep going. I have a key worker on my books, however most my clients where working from home, so following on what the government said I closed down, two Mondays ago. Beyond that I was just not comfortable, going from peoples homes, taking the dogs out and running into people getting to close. The other issue is I have lost a lot of quiet dogs walking spots, for various reasons, I keep seeing  dog walkers on social media still walking round parts of the Goyt Valley which are now strictly no dogs off leads till 31st of July for ground nesting birds,  these dog walkers with their huge groups of dogs all off leads !!! I personally don’t think the birds need 100s 100s 100s of acres of land, eccles pike the entire Goyt Valley,  not to mention Castle Naze which is also permanently has a no dog rule, but rules are rules at the end of the day, so for me to be following this rule struggling with my dogs with where to go and then the newbies coming along and just ignoring the rules, discounting it, its not fair but much  worse than that its just so soul destroying, ours is a trade that needs much more stricter rules.  In this scenario I always have to follow my own advice if I don’t rate the dog walker I stay off their social media, its so much easier that way,  I personally rate and am friends with lots of local dog walkers, which is great, however you cant rate and like everyone !!

I do understand why some people have kept going, with the Government not helping self employed people until June !  I totally get why some people have had to keep going, for me I am married, we own our house outright my partner has a good job, I have savings for a few months at least ,so for me to carry on walking would of been unethical and a bit greedy, beyond all of that I needed a break !

So the uncertainty is an issue, even if Little Happy Hounds comes back after all of this I predict a quiet spell, I know some of my clients have been given their redundancy notice so I am uncertain of firstly when we will be coming back, secondly if I am coming back and  thirdly if I do comeback how the economy might be and how many clients I may loose. The enormity of the situation will have ramifications for all of us for many months too come. So we have no idea how long we will all be in lockdown for I think the news said their are signs the virus spreading is slowing down in the UK, this is week two of lockdown, I know Wuhan China were all this began, had a much more stricter lockdown but the entire place was closed for six weeks !!

My holiday plans this year have all gone up in smoke of course, I was suppose to be going to Whitby next week we booked a beautiful cottage and we where going away to celebrate my fortieth birthday’ which was last week’ so we have now   rescheduled the cottage for September. I wanted to see that East Yorkshire coast line I have  never been, to Whitby and Robinhoods Bay, spend a week walking near the coast total bliss my dog will love it.  I now plan to cancel my other weeks off in July and August  and just take the week of in September!

So yes what a year 2020 has been,  as a dog walker in the almost eight years of existence this is by far the worse thing to ever of happened. My heart goes out to the families of the 1000s of people this virus has taken, hope we will beat this and have a vaccine before to long ! So I will leave this here, stay safe everyone, I will be updating my facebook pages and Instagram ! Be sure to find our little happy hounds page !

Puppy visit services.

Puppies when they are young need company. They also need feeding up to four times a day, they need any accidents cleared up and they need some training. Having raised puppies ourselves, we are very experienced in this area. We can come and visit your puppy when your out at work all day, let them out into your garden, feed them, play with them and give them lots of attention and care, and break up a long day for them.

This is a great opportunity for us to build a bond of trust with your young puppy, incase they become one of our dog walking clients, after they have been fully vaccinated. Over the years, many of our current dog walking clients, started out as our puppy visit clients. We offer a very caring bespoke puppy sitting service.

While we are doing our puppy visit, we offer basic reward praise based training, playtime and company, I can help with recall and bite inhibition, we also help with socialising and we make sure your puppy is happy and content when we leave. I am also available, for any questions you might have, should you be a first time dog owner, no question is ever to silly, over  the years i have picked up one or two things that i am always happy to share, as ever with any puppy visit client of Little Happy Hounds, we do not charge any extra for advice, recommendations,or any  help that you may require.

Woof Woof Wednesday & Whiskers Wednesday.

what a day and too think I am quiet as its half term and at least six dog walking clients are off today for the Half term. I have done three cat sitting visits for 8 cats and walked four dogs, five with my own dog. I usually do three one hour walks on a Wednesday however today I was able to just do one, collecting dogs from Chapel-en-le-Frith, Chinley, New Mills and Birch Vale and doing the walk in Hayfield. We did a slightly longer walk and it was great weathers was dry and strangely mild. Love parts of Hayfield as it can be very dog friendly, if you no the places that are sheep free, we get a lot of tourists there so I am always careful and mindful when I take a group of dogs walking there.  Today we had my dog a Shih Tzu x Yorkie cross, Monty a Westie x Yorkie cross, Betty a Cavachon, Oscar a Cavapoo and Fritz a miniature Schnauzer.

We had cat sitting gigs today in Chapel-en-le-Frith, New Mills and Birch Vale, including our new cat sitting clients Arthur Sheba Coco and Tinkerbell, I am loving caring for these new clients, Sheba is the most beautiful cat I have ever seen, she is half Persian and has come too High Peak from the Middle East ! Typical Wednesday for me, awesome long dog nature walk, views, hills, happy hounds off leads, and caring for a bevy of lovely cats. Pictures below are from today. Little Happy Hounds, dog walker, pet care services Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire. Fully insured, reliable pet sitting puppy care and dog sitting services, we cover Furness Vale, Disley, New Mills, Whaley Bridge Buxworth and Chapel.

Scrappy loves the Goyt Valley

So at the weekend one of my favourite places too take my dog is Fox Low Edge, the Goyt Valley, the Goyt Valley is in-between between Whaley Bridge and Buxton, the Peak District national park. For a dog friendly walk it is great, there are no sheep or cows up there and we are out of nesting season, so he was off lead from the minute we left the car. We had lots of autumn sunshine and I managed to take a few great pics of my dog Scrappy, he’s looking great, had his teeth cleaned last week, his fur trimmed and bathed this weekend bless him I can’t believe he is almost 9 years old still runs around like a puppy, he is a Shorkie, cross breed of a Shih Tzu  and Yorkie.

Lyme Dog

So we have had some lovely walks this weekend, and today happy Monday, we went to Lyme Park on Saturday, the Goyt Valley Sunday and today, I Eccles Pike for our first dog walk and Lantern Pike for our second.

So Saturday was dog friendly day for the gardens of Lyme Hall Lyme Park Disley. I had my dog walking client booked in Millie the labradoodle and my friends came with their rottie Holly, so we had three dogs, four adults we did the hill and the cage so the dogs had lots of time off lead. The gardens are strictly dogs on leads, it was great we visited the orangery. I highly recommend a day out at Lyme Park gardens with your pooch link below , pics are from that walk.
