service spotlight- puppy visits.

So away from the dog walking one of the services I provide at Little Happy Hounds is puppy visits / puppy care/ puppy sitting.  I provide puppy visits in the areas of Chinley, where I am based, Whaley Bridge, Buxworth, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Furness Vale, High Peak, Derbyshire. Other areas maybe covered, for enquires, call 07732265149 or visit main website

or find us on Facebook,

I can also be emailed directly info@littlehappyhounds.co.uk

So like most of our services this is a very personalised service. I call in to visit a young puppy, once or twice a day, break up a long day at home alone, feed them, provide company, cuddles, playtime, and I also offer praise based training, recall, bite inhibition and lots of socialising.

I am not a trainer at all so I strongly advice all clients with puppies to join a puppy training class, I have to say in the years I have been a dog walker it shows which puppies have not been to a class and which ones have.

A lot of dog walkers especially around here, offer puppy visits but do they do offer the training I do alongside my visit or is it just cuddles ? I am big believer in socialising little and often with young dogs,  every scenario going, walks in busy places, people, walks near busy roads, its important to get your puppy use to lots of different sights and sounds, I also do recall, toilet training,  socialising and bite inhibition, what tends to happen at Little Happy Hounds the puppies eventually go onto to one of group dog walks, which is really special for me as I have obviously built up a very strong bond with the puppy so for them to become my dog walking client is a honour and I find the ones that have been my puppies first, listen to me, have excellent recall and are very happy well rounded dogs.

My experience, is varied, I have read puppy training books, I recommend serval to my clients, I also have puppy experience through dog ownership and of course I have puppy experience running little happy hounds for the last 8 years I have cared for many puppies during this time.

Like with all our services, I am fully insured, we are a small local business I have no employees all the care is provided by me, I am DBS checked and that certificate can be viewed at your meet and greet upon request, all the puppies you will see in this post on this dog blog are current dog walking clients that I have had the pleasure to care for from being tiny little happy puppies !

other services include dog walker, cat sitting and pet sitting.

FAB FAB FEBRUARY.

Firstly February has been the cat sitting month, I have taken a new booking for June, but also I was looking after Polly, then Baz Aggie Lennie, then currently Esmee and Luna for two weeks we half way there with that, then Thursday and Friday I popped in on Queenie to do a short two day duration for her, and last night a new cat visit duration started for Ole and Tin tin till Sunday more.  So what I am wanting to do with the cats is cut back especially on twice a day visits and the ones that are far from home, when it comes to the evening and the weekend I don’t actually want to drive far to cat feed, money is okay but its not amazing especially when you count unsociable hours and the cost of diesal, so I am going to be much more careful about what I do. Which includes no more cats in New Mills.  I have a lot of cats I see in Whaley Bridge, Buxworth, Chapel-en-le-Frith even one or two in New Mills, but what I don’t have is any in Chinley so until that happens I am happy to cut back on the far away ones like New Mills, I know I am only in Chinley but to much driving makes me stressed, also the roads, percent state of being dug up, parked cars everywhere you go so lots of stop / start it can be a nightmare driving round here.

So the dogs !! so Peanut a border terrier came to me via another dog walker sending me the enquiry so I have thanked her for that and puppy Ralph has come to me via my some of my long term clients so what I am realising more more, writing blogs, social media , flyer dropping ‘ if I do that ‘ only achieves so much, the real form of advertisement now is word of mouth and reputation, so I am glad that it is working for me, as I am over the moon with Peanut firstly and also the prospect a young puppy going us.  Peanut is great she’s been on three walks, gets on with everyone is a typical high energy terrier she is only 8 months old I am very attached to her already !! She is also awesome in the van as she first to be collected its another five stops before we get to the walk it took almost an hour last week before we got to walk.

So puppy Ralph starts twice daily week after next, I went to meet him and he’s adorable, glad to report he is completely different personality to a cockapoo puppy I took on last year which did not work out, the other cockapoo who joined me last year Gracie is absolute angel, she is high energy dog and I always look forward to her twice weekly walks, so with Ralph I will have four cockapoos on my books in the history of Little Happy Hounds Ralph will be number six !! So I would say I know the breed I definitely love the breed thats for sure.  The other thing I love about Ralph is he is apricot coloured, Max, Bobbie, Bridie and Gracie are all jet black, Gracie has some amazing grey making on her face, the first Betty I looked after years ago was amazing array of colours, white , black patches of tan! So plan is to work with Ralph during puppy visits, he will be getting some puppy training of a trainer and then I am hoping he can join group walks at 4 to 5 months old, I am not rushing though when he is big enough older enough has recall etc,  very exciting times only second month of the new year and we have new dog and new puppy !

So what I really need now is new dogs on Fridays ! When the last few New Mills dogs left in 2018, as I was centralising the business it left a gap on Friday, usually this would of filled very quickly but combination of not advertising and all the new dog walkers meant had no enquiries that day !! I enjoy being quiet on Fridays but again I still need a new dog or two that as at the moment I am not actually covering the fuel I am using to collect the few dogs I have !

So February has been kind month for Little Happy Hounds,  minus the weather bit, I have not enjoyed that at all, I am looking forward to March. Both work wise and personally March will be a great month !! firstly Its my very significant birthday and I have one or two little things planned to mark the occasion as its a big one, but I am also entering a new era, I want to focus on my health now and try and get a bit fitter, I am also returning home for few days going up to Newcastle, to see my dad, I have not been to Newcastle since 2017 I think.  And just before easter we were planning a long weekend away for my birthday and we were thinking Robins Bay, Whitby kind of area I have never been and its suppose to a area of outstanding beauty for walking, so we have to get a wriggle on and get that organised I have already booked time off from work.

Dog Walker High Peak

With my dog “nature” walks, I offer my dogs time spent in nature, on and off leads, varied terrains, in all weathers. I walk in small groups, all my clients are socialised, and good with other dogs. I only have one client who can not be off the lead, with my younger clients, I often work on recall, and praise based training.

As I have lots of clients in Whaley Bridge, Chinley, Chapel, New Mills and Birch Vale, we tend to go walking in these areas, I often take the dogs for a steep hilly woodland walk in Hayfield, that I know. Around Whaley Bridge we often to go to Toddbrook Reservoir, Chinley Churn, Wash, Eccles Pike, Goyt Valley, and many other locations. As ever I try and avoid crowds, roads and sheep and cows with my clients,

jabba, jackson !

With Little Happy Hounds turning three in August I offer experience from a established pet sitting dog walking business. As well as attending a canine first aid course, a workshop on tellington ttouch for dogs, Little Happy Hounds is fully insured with public liabilty insurance, with pet plan sanctuary, I also have had a CRB check done and with many of my clients I am a trusted key holder.

We are now based in Whaley Bridge since 2014, before that i lived in New Mills for 9 years. Other services include puppy visits, cat sitting and dog walker. Covering Chinley, Buxworth, Buxton, Whaley Bridge, Furness Vale, New Mills, Hayfield and Chapel-en-le-Frith High Peak. Established in 2012, we offer a experienced, bespoke, caring service.

Little Happy Cats.

As ever its been a busy time for Little Happy Cats, the pet sitting side of Little Happy Hounds. Last week we cared for Digi, a cat I have looked after twice before, in New Mills and I cat visited Shoga and Alba, new cat clients, who live on a canal boat!

Shoga

Shoga

Alba

Alba

Both got just the one visit a day, Digi goes out so has no litter tray he just needed dry biscuits, Shoga and Alba were staying for the duration so had a little tray, and they needed their food measured out and i was more than happy to follow instructions like this, as this is very much a personalised bespoke service, I always try and meet everyones individual requirements.

Link below is for a photo album on our facebook page, as the majority of my business is dog walking and therefore picturs of our dog clients onw alks tend to take over the facbook page and my cats get lost, so i just wanted to highlight the other caring service we provide. Little Happy Cats.

happy walks happy hounds.

Weathers definitely turned more winter than autumn this weekend, i am enjoying a restful weekend,  had Shoba and Alba to visit yesterday, my newest cat sitting clients, who live on a very long canal boat and I did some shopping around Buxton. I had to work last week with a viral cough thing which was not very nice so i am hoping its on its way out as I have a very busy week ahead.

Lots happening on the LHH farm, firstly we have a new dog walking client, Tilly joining us, Monday, Wednesday and Fridays, all three are my busiest days but having met her I could not resist her joining us, she is a Jack Russell x Yorkie, both breeds are my one of favourites, yorkies especially had a yorkie grown up and my current doggie Scrappy is a yorkie x shih tzu. Shih Tzu another of my favourite breeds, such cute dogs with huge personalities.

dog nature walks High Peak

I have been offering ” dog nature walks” since little happy hounds began life in New Mills back in 2012. Walking in small groups, I do walks with various terrains, up hill, places like Hayfield, Lantern Pike, and Taxal and the Goyt Valley. Allowing plenty time off lead, to “roam’ ‘explore’ ‘sniff’ all very natural things for dogs to do to be content and happy, in the countryside around High Peak.

Years ago I took the decision that I did not want to be a van driver or use cages to transport my dogs.

Toddbrook Whaley

Toddbrook Whaley

What has worked for little happy hounds is to mirror what dogs usually do at home, so dogs that want to see out the window, will be harnessed to the back seat of the “little happy hounds-mobile” dogs that are generally quiet and settled in the car can go in the boot, I have a dog guard up. Any newbies will travel alone until we get to the location so the dogs can meet outdoors off leads on neutral ground, its one of the many questions i ask when i take new clients on is are they good in the car, as one nervous dog can upset everyone else. Other things Little Happy Hounds offers our dog walking clients. As ever we do not count the travel time, the one hour walk begins at the location, only in rare times of extreme driving difficulties do we count travel!

Taxal Doggie Edge

One of my favourite places to walk the dogs is in and around Taxal, which I now class as my neighbourhood, since we live so close by.  Taxal Edge being my favourite as its sheep free up there, as stunning views, lots of heather for the dogs bounce around in. Think it comes within the Peak District National Park boundary.

Taxal has some amazing walks in the Goyt Valley, from Taxal Edge you can walk to Fernilee Reservoir or Windgather Rocks.

Taxal Whaley Bridge

strike a pose my favourite view up there

George

the heather in the summer up there was amazing

There are cows up there at various points in the year so at one point the cow poop was so bad up there I gave up on going up for a while, another problem especially at the weekend is large groups of cyclists cycling over the top, which according to my map, is a foot path, its shame really as the quiet lanes and bridal ways around Kettleshulme and Goyt Valley should be enough for them.
