January 2020 blog

So I have not wrote a post about Little Happy Hounds in a while on this blog, I have been concentrating my efforts in writing posts on the blog that is part of my website, http://www.littlehappyhounds.co.uk so a post on here a long over due.

So far the new year has been kind too me, we are having a milder winter so works that little bit easier, its always very knackering dog walking in cold weather and in winter in general. So I have had some changes, I have new cockapoo puppy  Ralph Joining me in February for twice daily twice weekly puppy visits and eventually he will be moving on my lunch time group walk, Tuesday and Thursdays, I have new dog gizmo the Shih Tzu joing us for a walk once a week, like Ralph the new puppy he is also in Whaley Bridge, and a lady contacted me about a terrier cross in Buxworth so I am hoping she will come back too me again this all for next month, so if those three join Little Happy Hounds it will be a busy February, I wont able to take new dogs on until Ralph is a bit bigger as puppy visits play havoc with my dog walking schedule. Anyway lots of positives.

Two lovely doggies I walk left, a German shepherd and rescue dog, I have walked them for five years, they are from the same family, the little one Ruby  who is a rescue has always been a bit skittish in the past she has run away from my walks, so for the longest time I kept her on a lead but last year I started letting her off, anyway two Fridays ago she ran away and from me for no good reason really, for me  it was the last time, beyond the stress of a client vanishing, I was working with a tummy bug so I was already unwell, anyway I found her. Once I spoke too the owner about the scenario I wanted too do some changes in how I am walking them. I offered too do lead walk only around the park for her or if they wanted too leave it was totally understandable and it would be on good terms with myself, on top of Ruby being skittish, she is also deaf and elderly, her German shepherd sister Amy is also advancing into her twilight years, anyway they left. I was a bit shocked at the enormity of it I have walked them for half a decade I am very fond of both of them; thats the thing with dog walking you get emotionally invested in other peoples pets !! I have been down this road before it hurts but I have too switch off put my business head on, and be thankful that they all left on good terms with myself. So I will miss them but onwards and upwards.

Amy and Ruby I will miss you both x

January has been busy, I have done some cat sitting gigs, Baz and co and queenie, and a lot of my regular clients have asked for extra walks so last few weeks and next week, its been busy, one dog I see usually three days a week, asked for four until March then a few ays ago asked fro friday as well for the next two weeks so she is now albeit temporary like a full time client, lovely springer I walk called Roxy joined us last year, and she is just one of many of my dogs who have asked for extra walks.

So I am taking moment too appreciate how steady work is, new enquiries, but also in the face of so much competition now, so I am looking inwardly at Little Happy Hounds, and wanting too highlight the things I love about the business whats working and what isn’t, I don’t advertise which is a problem, but I have now started writing more blogs, my next task is a new flyer too convey the new message of 2020 and I am considering a flyer drop.  I can take on more cat sitting and smaller pet visits nearer too home, I have spaces for new dogs , Fridays possibly Wednesday and if anyone wants a later walk about 2 onwards that viable most days, everyone always wants the lunch time walk which was partly  why Amy and Ruby were such great clients they were flexible about what time I could go for the girls.

So too conclude, January 2020 has been fabulous for me a small business  as a dog walker, I am fully insured, this coming August little happy hounds will be 8 years old, I offer discretion for when your not at home, I don’t drive a branded company van, I specialise in proper dog nature walks, as a dog walker we go to the Goyt Valley and other places in the Peak District, I walk in small groups, off leads, I am a one man show as small local business I guarantee a more caring, reliable approach when it comes too my pet care services. Longer and shorter walks can be arranged in advance.  I am based in the village of Chinley, I have regular clients in Chinley, Buxworth, Whaley Bridge, Chapel-en-le-Frith, High Peak Derbyshire. Puppy care, cat feeding and dog walking services, find us on Facebook.

new van

All in all as 2019 is grinding too a end, its been a okay year for LHH I had too say bye too a few much loved clients as I tried too centralise the business, which was horrible very emotional as I get very attached especially a full time client I have looked after since being a puppy. But onwards and upwards, I have a new van so its enjoyable driving around without water leaking on my head, I loved my old car but I did not look after it and it had lots of issues, so I was glad to see the back of it, I feel like seven years has refreshed me refreshed work new van and I am looking forward too 2020 and the next seven years of Little happy Hounds. With our pet care services we cover Chinley were we live, Buxworth, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Furness Vale, Whaley Bridge, High Peak, dog walking, pet sitting, cat visits, and puppy visits. reviews

So I don’t have any family in this area and my circle of friends is small, so when someone posts for recommendation for a dog walker on a local Facebook group, my aunts, uncles, friends, wont all jump on the post and recommend me singing my praises,  as they all live up in the North East so I don’t get an easy ride when it comes too gaining new enquiries. So what I have done from day one is made sure actual customer reviews clients recommendations are everywhere, this includes testimony page on the main website , our Facebook business page, and our online listings on Yell, Google places and Free Business index ! For example on our google listing for Little Happy Hounds we now have 9 reviews !

I did have 60 reviews on Facebook, 50 plus on the Little Happy Hounds page and we had 10 lovely reviews on the Little Happy Cats page, I took the little happy cats page down too concentrate on one page which annoyingly meant I lost the review I had !! So I am hoping was we move into 2020 I will gain some new Facebook ones on the little happy hounds page make up for the fabulous ones I lost !

Can not believe its only Tuesday

I feel like I have done an entire week of Little Happy Hounds I am a very tired dog walker indeed;  which is annoying as its only Tuesday I am feeling more tired than usual sleeping very deeply struggling too get up nice and early !! This is not a complaint but a observation. Winter lack of sunshine and long dog walks always makes me very tired…

So Monday yesterday we did three one hour walks and today just two one hour dog walks. we have a extra dog this week, a black Schnauzer called Teddy, who I walked once before a few months back he belongs to some family members of my client Monty a lovely cocker spaniel I walk regularly. Teddy is a one off and staying on a long training lead as he can be a bit precious and I am worried he will run away ! As a one off dog walk I don’t mind walking a dog on a lead, as all my little happy hounds regulars are able to be off leads.

Betty in my van today enjoying the new heated seat !

So yesterday the dog friendly walks were, Taxal, Eccles Pike, and my third walk, which was just my dog Scrappy and sisters German shepherd Amy and her rescue dog sister Ruby was along the Peak Forest Canal, I start near Bridgemont walk towards Bugsworth Basin and do a loop around the basin its the flattest walk I do just because I have lost Toddbrook reservoir now and their are not many good walks too do near the Whaley Lane end of town, the girls love that canal walk so all is good !

Today I had two walks my first was Fernilee Reservoir my second was a repeat of a walk I do at Taxal, its rained a bit mostly drizzling which is fine as its been a lot milder this week, the pictures are just a few from the last few days find us on Facebook too follow our adventures in full.

https://www.facebook.com/littlehappyhounds/

October 2019 gone so fast

So they do say time flies when your having fun, fun I have had with the doggies and the kitty cats and boom its November already.

So this last week has been great as a dog walker in the High Peak,  its been October half term so a few less dog walking clients and a few extra cat sitting clients is how this usual works at Little Happy Hounds, its been cold all week but very sunny and very dry so we have had some awesome dog walks. I have been avoiding busy areas like Eccles Pike and Goyt Valley as its half term and everyone is off work off school out walking.  So the photos below are just some from this weeks dog walks and cat visit too follow my adventures in full find our little happy hounds Facebook page.  Dog walking, cat sitting, pet care services based in Chinley in the Peak District Derbyshire, I cover Whaley Bridge, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Buxworth and other areas in the High Peak.

Little Happy Hounds we began life back in 2012 when we were based in New Mills, and had clients in Marple, New Mills,  Hayfield, Birch Vale, Chapel, Chinley and Whaley. We then moved too whaley bridge and centralised and stopped covering New Mills and Marple, we have recently moved too Chinley, we offer cat feeding, puppy visits and dog walking, I am highly experienced, very caring, very reliable we are a established local pet care services.

My week in pictures.

So I only post a few photos on blogs as its very time consuming, too follow our Little Happy Hounds adventures in full visit our Facebook page

https://www.facebook.com/littlehappyhounds/

we also have a little happy cats Facebook page, twitter youtube and Instagram.

So last week I took so many great shots I am guessing as we had so many great walks, the week started out hot and sunny and then rest of the week was showers, Fridays first walk was when I realized all of a sudden how autumnal its getting. I walk two dogs sisters, and when I can I prefer walking them 1-2-1 or with my dog not in group just because one of them is older and a rescue dog so is sometimes nervous, anyway too make life easier for me we did a unheard of at LHH towers lower level walk along the Peak Forest Canal to Bugworth basin, it rained, but I was struck at the autumn colours, the trees against the colour of green water in the canal and all of sudden autumn has arrived in the High Peak.

Earlier in the week we enjoyed walks at The Goyt Valley, Taxal and Eccles Pike. I got my new work van Sunday eve so was rather thrown in the deep end with it, having too start my working week on a very busy Monday in a new car it was not easy, especially when I was very late all day Monday, and not my fault either. As a dog walker I love autumn everywhere is that little bit more quieter its cooler for the dogs.

Anyway photos are just a select few of this week ! find us on Facebook to follow our journey in full.  More photos below ,

43878338_2287475497953819_3815839633724407808_n

so this week I have seen and heard things with other businesses locally, I want to clarify the Little Happy Hounds ethos in this post on this dog blog, basically who we are and what we do as a pet care business in Derbyshire High Peak.

so as I am a one man show I can’t walk unsocialised dogs, dogs with aggression, or 1-2-1 dog walks. I actually put a clause in my contract last year about dog aggression. So in the beginning I walked two dogs lovely little doggies who hated other dogs and I began with solo dog walks, eventually threw socialising I had them both on group walks. However I have done that now don’t really have the time to do that again. My walking groups are a safe space, were all my dogs are highly socialised with other dogs, if we see dogs out and about on leads who may have problems we give them a wide birth. My appreciate some dogs have not had the best starts, my heart goes out to thumbnut my role isn’t to train those dogs, so sadly we just look after friendly dogs, dogs that love other dogs.

So I am not a dog trainer, again, I am just a dog walker. I use positive reinforcement with my dogs, if I find they are being unruly depending on scenario I will tell them off firmly verbally, and put them on leads. Again, threw out the walk I practice recall, rewarding them with treats and praise. If we see Joggers I get them in to one side again shower them in praise and treats and keeping them still. If we see dogs off leads approaching I assess the situation I am more than happy for my clients to say hello to other friendly dogs off leads.

Again I see my role as a dog walker, to have fun with the dogs, take them interesting rural places, I avoid the crowds, we go off the beaten track. I want my clients to have exercise, fun, to be mentally stimulated, to socialise with me, other dogs, some clients are working from home others are out all day so I am making sure all the dogs get an hour, plus the car time, on quiet days we do longer walks. Its worked for me for six years, we have had no dog fights amongst the clients, they are brilliant in the car, I drive an estate car and they are sometimes with me for 35 minutes even an hour in the car as I cover Whaley Bridge, New Mills, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Chinley, Birch Vale. Again I fasten my dogs in, if the dogs are on back seat we have seat belt harnesses, in the boot I have a dog guard.  So all in all the little happy hounds way works for me, works for my dogs and works for my clients. We sadly don’t offer dog home boarding, I am not licensed for one thing or doggy daycare, we offer dog nature walks, cat sitting and puppy visits.
