July at LHH 2020

Its been a weird last few months, works been steady at times works been dead at times, with corona virus it means a lot of clients are down to reduced walks, so a dog I would see three or four times a week is now once a week, plus we lost a lot of cat sitting bookings, but its not all bad and there is light at the end of the tunnel.

We where fortunate enough to take on a new client a few weeks back very sweet little dog Zelda she is a mix breed, a basset hound crossed with a toy poodle, she is very sweet cute but so well behaved !! A pleasure to walk I’m very lucky indeed. We are now seeing new dog cockapoo Wilf once a week regularly he joined us just before the world went mad in March with corona virus. We have new cat sittings book new client for August and regular clients Ole and Tin tin for October,

reviews

So I don’t have any family in this area and my circle of friends is small, so when someone posts for recommendation for a dog walker on a local Facebook group, my aunts, uncles, friends, wont all jump on the post and recommend me singing my praises,  as they all live up in the North East so I don’t get an easy ride when it comes too gaining new enquiries. So what I have done from day one is made sure actual customer reviews clients recommendations are everywhere, this includes testimony page on the main website , our Facebook business page, and our online listings on Yell, Google places and Free Business index ! For example on our google listing for Little Happy Hounds we now have 9 reviews !

I did have 60 reviews on Facebook, 50 plus on the Little Happy Hounds page and we had 10 lovely reviews on the Little Happy Cats page, I took the little happy cats page down too concentrate on one page which annoyingly meant I lost the review I had !! So I am hoping was we move into 2020 I will gain some new Facebook ones on the little happy hounds page make up for the fabulous ones I lost !

we also have a little happy cats Facebook page, twitter youtube and Instagram.

So last week I took so many great shots I am guessing as we had so many great walks, the week started out hot and sunny and then rest of the week was showers, Fridays first walk was when I realized all of a sudden how autumnal its getting. I walk two dogs sisters, and when I can I prefer walking them 1-2-1 or with my dog not in group just because one of them is older and a rescue dog so is sometimes nervous, anyway too make life easier for me we did a unheard of at LHH towers lower level walk along the Peak Forest Canal to Bugworth basin, it rained, but I was struck at the autumn colours, the trees against the colour of green water in the canal and all of sudden autumn has arrived in the High Peak.

Earlier in the week we enjoyed walks at The Goyt Valley, Taxal and Eccles Pike. I got my new work van Sunday eve so was rather thrown in the deep end with it, having too start my working week on a very busy Monday in a new car it was not easy, especially when I was very late all day Monday, and not my fault either. As a dog walker I love autumn everywhere is that little bit more quieter its cooler for the dogs.

Anyway photos are just a select few of this week ! find us on Facebook to follow our journey in full.  More photos below ,

SERVICES dog walking.

Leaving your dog at home on their own is never ideal, but here at Little Happy Hounds, we aim to make it that little bit easier by providing a professional, caring, highly experienced dog walking service that you and your dog can rely on. I love dogs and I love walking around the Peak District, I often take the dogs to the Goyt Valley, Taxal and other places, its brilliant to watch them off leads, playing, socialising and having a fabulous time for photos and videos of our walks find us on social media. The photos on this post is just some of this weeks walk.

https://www.facebook.com/littlehappyhounds/

We aim to exercise your dog and give them the chance to socialise with other dogs, meaning your dog is returned home content and physically tired, so that they will be relaxed & settled, resting until you return home from a busy day at work.

69806180_2830363483665015_4370023606139224064_n

On a typical walk, we will collect your dog from your home and at a time convenient to you. Whatever the weather, we will safely transport your dog by car (or on foot depending on your location) to some of our favorite places, Goyt Valley, Eccles Pike and more. I tend to avoid low level walks, parks etc, they can get busy for one thing, i prefer to get my hiking boots on and take the dogs on a proper walk, off lead ‘when it is safe to do so’, places with varied terrain, lots of different smells for them, making the most of the beautiful High Peak, Derbyshire area.

All our dogs are returned home, safe, happy and content and very tired! We’ll also clean up muddy paws with a towel if need be.

Our policy at Little Happy Hounds is to stay ‘small’ and ‘local’. As a dog walker our dogs are only ever walked in groups of a maximum of six , i do however much prefer smaller walking groups of up to four so six only happens when we are very busy, by walking in smaller groups we guarantee a more personalised, safe caring service. We offer our pet care services, dog walking, puppy visits and cat sitting in the Village of Chinley which is were we are based, we also cover and have fabulous clients in Buxworth, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Furness Vale and Whaley Bridge, High Peak Derbyshire.

68653566_2800388699995827_8684427162456948736_n

We also offer a free consultation at your home, before we take on any new clients where your dog gets to meet us and we can get an idea of your dog’s personality and what their specific needs are. All new dog clients have a initial four week trial with Little Happy Hounds, too make sure everyone gets on. Little Happy Hounds now has seven years of service in pet care in and around this area,  trusted key holder, CRB checked, fully insured, no employees offering a small local business.

Puppy visit services.

Puppies when they are young need company. They also need feeding up to four times a day, they need any accidents cleared up and they need some training. Having raised puppies ourselves, we are very experienced in this area. We can come and visit your puppy when your out at work all day, let them out into your garden, feed them, play with them and give them lots of attention and care, and break up a long day for them.

This is a great opportunity for us to build a bond of trust with your young puppy, incase they become one of our dog walking clients, after they have been fully vaccinated. Over the years, many of our current dog walking clients, started out as our puppy visit clients. We offer a very caring bespoke puppy sitting service.

While we are doing our puppy visit, we offer basic reward praise based training, playtime and company, I can help with recall and bite inhibition, we also help with socialising and we make sure your puppy is happy and content when we leave. I am also available, for any questions you might have, should you be a first time dog owner, no question is ever to silly, over  the years i have picked up one or two things that i am always happy to share, as ever with any puppy visit client of Little Happy Hounds, we do not charge any extra for advice, recommendations,or any  help that you may require.

Puppy visits-cat sitting and dog walking,

Why Choose Little Happy Hounds.

So in this post I will talk about the dog walking, cat sitting and puppy visit’s work I do. We live in such sparsely populated area a few villages a few towns and let me tell you we have far to many dog walkers in our area now, ‘my humble opinion’ if your reading this and want to make a quick buck don’t it will take you ages to get new dogs that are not part of your friend and family network, that being said about new dog walkers its not effected our pet care services at Little Happy Hounds, even with the new ones who have uncut everyone by charging slightly less, you get what you pay for in my mind.

I think the reason we have no seen this affect us at Little Happy Hounds is firstly I have very loyal caring client based.

Secondly I think of my business, my dogs, cats and their humans as one big extended family I will aways go that extra mile to look after and accommodate all my clients.

So how I am still getting new enquiries in the face of such new competition; with huge branded brightly coloured vans every corner I take,  I like too think that its  firstly word of mouth, secondly facebook Instagram and twitter were I demonstrate what we do, thirdly blogging.  But who knows. its working whatever it is, thank you everyone.

So within this realm of pet care its not very well regulated, common sense needs to prevail, you wont catch me with my dogs off leads crossing the dam bridge in between the two cars park at Fernilee for example; something I have now seen two new dog walkers do, it’s a road, a quiet road but a road all the same.

69321408_10157266730872221_923993945229230080_n

You will not catch me walking down Eccles lane from Eccles pike on my mobile phone with two dog clients on leads and then fail to move out the way of traffic; again something I have seen lately I try very hard not to use my phone when I am with the dogs full stop; except for taking pictures at an appropriate time, again common sense needs to prevail.

If other new dog walkers don’t like me writing these things, then don’t do them were I can see them. End of the day when is see these things it really hurts my feelings as people have no idea what their dog walkers are doing with their pets, being a lovely person does not make you a great dog walker.

Lastly is it ethical??  There are some breeds I just wont walk and have been asked as they are so interbred they have to have nose jobs to help them breathe, nope , I don’t want that responsibility or that representation for Little Happy Hounds.

68898287_2804005026300861_3249966289338236928_n

Also with what is ethical, walking a group of dogs all off lead except one nervous one, or aggressive,  on a flexi lead. I do walk two sisters one of fleix again this is very much a 1-2-1 two sisters dog walk, don’t get me wrong I use a Flexi for my own dog when I am off work,  however I would not use one with large group of dogs its inappropriate and at its worse dangerous,  nor would I walk any dog with aggression or nervousness within my pack of happy socialised dogs, its not ethical if you do that your greedy trying to walk as many dogs as you can. we are not trainers or animal behaviourists we are Dog walkers and pet sitters.

I could go on but don’t want to come across as a meany, when all I ever have done want to do is provide safe comfortable group walks for my dogs, were dogs get on are happy to be out and can be trusted off leads when its safe to do so.

I offer Maturity, I am a married man, in my very late 30s, home owner dog owner I  have lived a very full happy life as a result I am a teenage girl walking dogs living at home. I am very a incomer of the High Peak area my home will always be Newcastle upon Tyne in mind but we just love the High Peak and living in the National Peak District park boundary is now a dream come true. We moved to New Mills in 2005 Whaley Bridge 2014 and mostly recently have found a permanent home in Chinley our new house is within the boundary of the Peak District.

69297283_2802152359819461_4454423269738545152_n

Branded uniforms, I see lots of new businesses on social media posts , creating emphasis on this that they have amazing shiny new branded uniforms, I am with dogs most days I don’t see clients other humans most days,  so too were a branded uniform is not going to benefit anyone especially me, its not what I am about, my appearance goes out the window when I am knee deep in mud covered in dog hair, so to walk around in branded and neat uniform makes me want to burst out laughing. I wear whats comfortable when I am out with the dogs.

Also with being non uniform comes discretion when I am walking  smaller groups I don’t want all of  in sundry,  knowing I am a dog walker, I am wanting to blend in when I can so wearing and uniform wont allow me to do that, plus visiting clients homes when your at work, on holiday for cat visits; wearing a uniform letting myself in and out your house at set times rocking up in a branded  van its all a red flag for me; if anyone is watching your home you have had it…

69409855_2802155429819154_3233994186432708608_n

So I am a one man show, with seven years experience running little happy hounds, prior to that I looked after friends cats and through dog ownership I have had a lot more experience than the seven years.

At Little Happy Hounds we have done and will do walk dogs of all breeds and sizes,   however we specialise in the care and dog walking of smaller breeds, my own dog is Shih Tzu cross, I have walked Shih thus  cavapoos, Chihuahuas Westies and all sorts of smaller doggies since we began life the clue being in the name of the business.

My puppy service is  not just about keeping a puppy company while your at work, I will advice all new dog owners, help with bite inhibition, recommend vets, groomers, aides, trainers, help with  recall, socialising and toilet breaking  I have looked after  a lot of puppies and hopefully helped a lot of my clients out along the way in in fact lots of our little happy hound crew were puppies first. Thats very special for me as I get very attached probably too attached and form a very close bond with my puppy visits come dog walking clients.

67682937_2764705650230799_8877921881592692736_n

Dog nature walks, so when I can I avoid parks low level flat walks and fields, I take my dogs on adventures, sometimes longer than hour, I walk in small groups , I allow lots of time off leads, work on recall and obedience, and in general make sure my dogs have fun, exercise, play time, my walks are varied Eccles Pike and Goyt Valley being two of my favourites and the dogs too.  A phrase I have blogged about since 2012 about my LHH walks is ‘ off the beaten track’ and it really is I try very hard to avoid people cattle sheep and walk the dogs quiet places however sometimes we do have to go busier places so my dogs need to have good recall.

68653566_2800388699995827_8684427162456948736_n

Cat sitting. So when I am not out in the peaks hiking with the LHH woofs I am cat sitting. So this is visiting peoples homes when they are on holiday, its primarly cats but we do get a lot fo smaller pets, recently I looked after a heard of alpacas and chickens, this service is very personalised, so I have indoor cats outdoor cats cats that hug me cats who hide from me, elderly cats who need medication, so I offer a very caring, very experienced cat feeding service, I try and cater for everyones pets specific needs.

Trusted key holder, years of experience, offering a very personalised caring pet care services at all time, we cover Chinley, Furness Vale, Whaley Bridge, Buxworth and Chapel-en-le-Frith High Peak.

all the photos in this blog are from last few weeks, if you want to follow our dog and kitty cat adventures to the max find us on Facebook, Little Happy Hounds and Little Happy Cats or visit the main website http://www.littlehappyhounds.co.uk

new beginnings

So a lot has happened in the last few weeks, we finally moved house, our new house, new lifestyle is more amazing than I ever could of imagined, the new house has so much character, we have amazing neighbours, the location is amazing we are now in a village the house is actually in the Peak District national park, we are not far from village centre but on a quiet lane, its just amazing, on top of all of that we have the fantasy garden we both always wanted, and all this is not just because we both work hard; its also karma, when your unhappy with your environment it attacks everything and its easy to get bogged down and fall apart at a the scenarios around you, but I kept strong, kept my faith that the universe would make it right for us, and lord and behold we are being rewarded in abundance, I wont go on as I am a big believer in keeping all the good things and what we have been through well and truly to myself, the proof is all around me in how much reward we are getting.

After being rewarded I like to give back in abundance, so I have been doing selfless acts of kindness whenever I can, I have done several things this week for friends and also small businesses, as it feels good to be nice.

So during the months of March April and May my little pet care business has taken a back burner, I was not happy with our living environment so my work environment suffered, I looked after my regulars, we took on two new doggies, and a cat but I turned down a lot of work,  a lot of work, some of it was not the right the fit the others I just did not have the energy, now I have a week off in our new home, getting sorted, I am feeling full of beans and I am raring to get back to work tomorrow.

You can follow Little Happy Hounds, and Little Happy cats adventures on youtube, twitter, Instagram and we have two Facebook pages, I am now running two more Instagram pages, the life of scraps , my dogs new Instagram, a a village life, which is my personal journey into a new chapter of my life, living in a village living in the countryside, there is going to be a lot of walking, cooking and gardening posts on that one. Pics below is our new home, we have gone from detached, modern 1970s house, double drive, garage massive kitchen, to a stone terraced house, with a massive terrace garden, its got really tall ceilings, and so much space, the garden is flanked by a field on two sides, so its peaceful and quiet, very happy times lie a head.

Come in August Little Happy Hounds, will be seven years old, I started my business from scratch, in New Mills, taking whatever work I could get, from little acorns become strong oak trees, in 2014 we moved to Whaley Bridge, and centralised, stopped covering Stockport, Marple Strines, Disley etc. At the back end of 2018 I stopped covering New Mills, with traffic increase on A6 I had more than enough work in Whaley, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Buxworth and Chinley, with so many other dog walkers in New Mills, it seemed silly business wise to keep the few clients I had still in and around New Mills, this decision was not easy as the clients I had had been with me since the ver beginning and I had strong emotional attachments, however I am running a business a one man show and I need to preserve my energy and not getting stressed and for me that means less driving, so half way into 2019 my work life balance is finally amazing, for cat sitting, puppy visits, dog walking we cover Chinley were I am now located, we also cover Whaley Bridge, Chapel-en-le-Frith, and Buxworth High Peak.  I walk in small groups mostly off lead, my walks include, Combs, Goyt Valley , Fernilee , Taxal Edge, my ethos since day one is to offer a off the beaten track kind of walk, to walk in small groups, and take the dogs on proper nature walks. In the beginning I was walking in Brabyns Park with my only client Lucy watching the other dog walkers, taking out 8 dogs at a time, keeping them on leads and messing about on their phones, I took all this in and decided I did not want to walk in busy crowded parks, didn’t want to take that many dogs out at once, and I have stuck to my guns, seven years in, as a dog walker I offer a very caring, personalised service, I have very close bonds with all my dogs.

Easter Kitties.

So I have been rubbish at blogging lately, I have been so busy mostly walking the dogs, that I have not had much time to post about all things Little Happy Hounds, I am currently enjoying some time off work so thought today would be a good day to write a post about what I got up to over the easter break.

I never got around to booking anything holiday wise, it was my partners big birthday so by the time I had organised that then other little things kept popping up and getting in the way so in the end we decided just to take the time off and enjoy our local countryside and go for walks in and around Derbyshire the peak district.

We went on a five mile walk on Easter Monday from Wash up to Brown Knoll,  via Shire Oaks farm, then on Tuesday we did a Higher Disley walk I have not done in ages, over Black Rocks, through the grounds of the Moorside Grange, over Whaley Moor onto Start lane Whaley then back to Higher Disley via back the end of Lyme Park.

I always take a week off at easter, with the dog walking its not easy managing the dogs on walks when everyone is off work, my walks are busy for three weeks over April and Easter as schools close different times so take a breather away from all the crowds is brilliant, I only really took Tuesday to Friday off as I was automatically closed for dog walking Good Friday to Easter Monday, plus I was working I was looking after cats all of last week the last one finished on Tuesday.

So I was looking after the little happy cats, Eustace, Queenie and Roary, I could of had another one but it was to late notice wise, in general its best to book in advance, especially if its a new client or I have not seen the cat in a while, its easter weekend, I had a birthday party to arrange so three cats was quite enough thank you.

Anyway my cat care took me to Whaley Bridge, Chapel-en-le-Frith, and Birch Vale all three of these clients are once a day cat clients. As these are regular long term clients, I have started to just charge one extra visit to cover the easter weekend bank holiday surcharge so say one cat had five visits, three of which fell on Good Friday,  Easter Sunday and Bank Holiday easter Monday, I have added a visit, so charged for 6 visits, again this is because they are regular clients, new clients would be charged double time for easter.

Prices.

So prices changed in 2019 so far clients have been fine about that, one daily visit is £8.00 and two daily visits is £13.00 for up to three cats, bank holidays will incur a extra charge.  Little Happy Cats offers a very reliable a very caring alternative to the cattery, caring for your cats at home.  I am fully insured, CRB checked, a trusted key holder and I have been caring for the cats in and around the High Peak since 2012. dog walker, puppy visits, pet sitting.

so March has been a slightly quieter month for Little Happy Hounds, with February being very busy a quieter March is very much welcomed.

53298616_2569943149743999_620511706417725440_n

February was busier as had quite a few cat sitting durations booked in over the half term especially, March has gone quiet as a few dogs have took holidays and another few cancelled for various reasons this week.

53913754_2518102988224401_2833633282313158656_n

So I have managed to catch up doing all the other things like paper work, cleaning my house, shopping, next week is looking busy. Anyway we have enjoyed some lovely dog friendly walks, despite the weather, its been rainy its been muddy and its been very muddy but my wonderful doggy charges have hopefully had a wonderful time in the Peak District Derbyshire.

53813268_2520552467979453_3702189670881296384_n

So this week, we have enjoyed the windy delights of Storm Gareth, I have done dog walks at Fernilee Reservoir, the woods in Hayfield, and on a clients private 7 acre piece of land. As a dog walker I go off the beaten track offering off lead walks, I walk in small groups. When I am not walking the happy hounds I am busy with the Little Happy Cats our cat feeding services, for dog walking and cat sitting I cover Whaley Bridge, were I am currently based top of Macc Road in the Linglongs estate, I also cover Chinley, Buxworth and Chapel-en-le-Frith High Peak.
