July at LHH 2020

Its been a weird last few months, works been steady at times works been dead at times, with corona virus it means a lot of clients are down to reduced walks, so a dog I would see three or four times a week is now once a week, plus we lost a lot of cat sitting bookings, but its not all bad and there is light at the end of the tunnel.

We where fortunate enough to take on a new client a few weeks back very sweet little dog Zelda she is a mix breed, a basset hound crossed with a toy poodle, she is very sweet cute but so well behaved !! A pleasure to walk I’m very lucky indeed. We are now seeing new dog cockapoo Wilf once a week regularly he joined us just before the world went mad in March with corona virus. We have new cat sittings book new client for August and regular clients Ole and Tin tin for October,

In this post are some of my favourite photos from last week and we have gotten two new recommendations on our Facebook page ! We are definitely able and very keen to take on new dog walking clients in our local area, once a week, twice a week, three times a week, we cover Whaley Bridge, Chinley, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Buxworth, High Peak Derbyshire , As a dog walker at Little Happy Hounds our emphasis on dog nature walks around the our beautiful local area of the Peak District, walking in small well organised groups. Fully insured pet care serves.

we also now can start taking new cat sitting bookings I know when I am around and available for the rest of 2020. find us on Facebook or on our main website http://www.littlehappyhounds.co.uk or email info@littlehappyhounds.co.uk

Back we go.

So we are now back in business have been for a few weeks now, I am now in the position to take on new clients,

all new enquiries can either email info@littlehappyhounds.co.uk or 07732265149 or contact me on facebook

https://www.facebook.com/littlehappyhounds/

So I thought needed a nice new post with nice recent photos of the dogs on there walks all these photos are tom the first week of June 2020. As you can see I like to go on proper dog nature walks around Derbyshire off leads, I walk in small well organised groups, I like to make sure my dogs enjoy their walks, are physically and mentally exercised, whilst keeping a close eye on them keeping them safe.

As a dog walker, I walk in small groups, all my dogs are tagged with my details, I walk mostly off the lead, we go on proper nature walks around the Peak District National Park, the Goyt Valley, Taxal and lots of other places ! Other services include puppy visits and cat sitting, I am DBS check I have a certificate for that, I am a trusted key holder and I am fully insured, Little Happy Hounds is small pet care business based in Chinley, we began life in New Mills back in 2012, I work alone have no employees, offering a more reliable, caring service, pet care in the High Peak Derbyshire, we have clients in Chinley, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Furness Vale, Buxworth, and Whaley Bridge. I used this blog as a way of posting about the business, I also have a proper website, http://www.littlehappyhounds.co.uk with a gallery, testimonies page and more about the services we provide, we are also on Facebook, you tube and Instagram !

local pet services FAB-UARY.

So work the business that is Little Happy Hounds is booming, got new clients that are a dream, taking new cat sitting bookings with all the new dog walkers coming into the area with loudly branded over compensating vans I am able to keep doing what I do discreetly and its still working we are still getting new enquiries I feel very fortunate indeed.

So new dog Peanut has come into my life two miles down the road from me based in Buxworth she is 8 months old brave well socialsied much loved border terrier, I love her and all my dog walking regulars love her just two walks in I can see her fitting into nicely in the way I do things at Little Happy Hounds.

As a local dog walker, I only cover the immediate local area to me, so in and around Chinley, I cover Whaley Bridge, Buxworth, and Chapel-en-le-Frith I also have some cat sitting clients in Furness Vale, I cant  cover Dove Holes or Buxton as its just a little bit too. far out form the other clients and as of 2018 we stopped covering the New Milld vicinities, New Mills, Birch Vale, Hayfield, I have kept 1 or 2 long term cat sitting clients but with increase of traffic meant I no longer could cover such a wide area and still provide a quality service.

I do a full on hour walk, the travel bit doesn’t not come into that, I have a lot of Whaley Bridge clients I do on the first morning walk, then depending on day on the second walk I have Chapel, Chinley and Whaley dogs so by the time I have done two lots of six dogs its nearly 2:30 and home time for me. For clients I do shorter walks if needed ‘toilet visits’ and I also do longer walks if requested which is basically a double walk, If I get any new enquiries its going to have to be 2 pm walk or any time on Friday which since we give up New Mills has been my quiet day.

Peanut aside I took two cat sitting bookings, one is confirmed and in my diary waiting for lady to confirm the other, and we also heard and are going to meet puppy Ralph on Friday he starts his puppy visits week after next, he will eventually be another new dog walking client twice a day and another cockapoo in my life.

What am now focusing on with the business is to remain a local pet care  business that offers quality over quantity every time, I’m friends with lots of local dog walkers the ones I rate and also home boarding places as its not a service I can provide so networking is very important to me.   I am also focusing on doing dog nature walks making sure every walk I do is an hour plus, when I can I will always do longer especially in fabulous weather,  and just really looking after my clients humans and dogs, making sure I provide the best most personalised service I can, I offer discretion for cat sitting and dog walking when your not home,  I drive a unbranded white van so I can come and go unnoticed  and discreetly.

January 2020 blog

So I have not wrote a post about Little Happy Hounds in a while on this blog, I have been concentrating my efforts in writing posts on the blog that is part of my website, http://www.littlehappyhounds.co.uk so a post on here a long over due.

So far the new year has been kind too me, we are having a milder winter so works that little bit easier, its always very knackering dog walking in cold weather and in winter in general. So I have had some changes, I have new cockapoo puppy  Ralph Joining me in February for twice daily twice weekly puppy visits and eventually he will be moving on my lunch time group walk, Tuesday and Thursdays, I have new dog gizmo the Shih Tzu joing us for a walk once a week, like Ralph the new puppy he is also in Whaley Bridge, and a lady contacted me about a terrier cross in Buxworth so I am hoping she will come back too me again this all for next month, so if those three join Little Happy Hounds it will be a busy February, I wont able to take new dogs on until Ralph is a bit bigger as puppy visits play havoc with my dog walking schedule. Anyway lots of positives.

82092008_3127328420635185_1588488766752817152_n

Two lovely doggies I walk left, a German shepherd and rescue dog, I have walked them for five years, they are from the same family, the little one Ruby  who is a rescue has always been a bit skittish in the past she has run away from my walks, so for the longest time I kept her on a lead but last year I started letting her off, anyway two Fridays ago she ran away and from me for no good reason really, for me  it was the last time, beyond the stress of a client vanishing, I was working with a tummy bug so I was already unwell, anyway I found her. Once I spoke too the owner about the scenario I wanted too do some changes in how I am walking them. I offered too do lead walk only around the park for her or if they wanted too leave it was totally understandable and it would be on good terms with myself, on top of Ruby being skittish, she is also deaf and elderly, her German shepherd sister Amy is also advancing into her twilight years, anyway they left. I was a bit shocked at the enormity of it I have walked them for half a decade I am very fond of both of them; thats the thing with dog walking you get emotionally invested in other peoples pets !! I have been down this road before it hurts but I have too switch off put my business head on, and be thankful that they all left on good terms with myself. So I will miss them but onwards and upwards.

Amy and Ruby I will miss you both x

January has been busy, I have done some cat sitting gigs, Baz and co and queenie, and a lot of my regular clients have asked for extra walks so last few weeks and next week, its been busy, one dog I see usually three days a week, asked for four until March then a few ays ago asked fro friday as well for the next two weeks so she is now albeit temporary like a full time client, lovely springer I walk called Roxy joined us last year, and she is just one of many of my dogs who have asked for extra walks.

So I am taking moment too appreciate how steady work is, new enquiries, but also in the face of so much competition now, so I am looking inwardly at Little Happy Hounds, and wanting too highlight the things I love about the business whats working and what isn’t, I don’t advertise which is a problem, but I have now started writing more blogs, my next task is a new flyer too convey the new message of 2020 and I am considering a flyer drop.  I can take on more cat sitting and smaller pet visits nearer too home, I have spaces for new dogs , Fridays possibly Wednesday and if anyone wants a later walk about 2 onwards that viable most days, everyone always wants the lunch time walk which was partly  why Amy and Ruby were such great clients they were flexible about what time I could go for the girls.

So too conclude, January 2020 has been fabulous for me a small business  as a dog walker, I am fully insured, this coming August little happy hounds will be 8 years old, I offer discretion for when your not at home, I don’t drive a branded company van, I specialise in proper dog nature walks, as a dog walker we go to the Goyt Valley and other places in the Peak District, I walk in small groups, off leads, I am a one man show as small local business I guarantee a more caring, reliable approach when it comes too my pet care services. Longer and shorter walks can be arranged in advance.  I am based in the village of Chinley, I have regular clients in Chinley, Buxworth, Whaley Bridge, Chapel-en-le-Frith, High Peak Derbyshire. Puppy care, cat feeding and dog walking services, find us on Facebook.

November 19

So with the run up to Christmas we are busy at Little Happy Hounds, this post is about the business what we do and the walks we have been on in November 2019.If your interested in any of our pet care services please feel free too ring me 07732265149 or email info@littlehappyhounds.co.uk with your enquiry, we also have a main website with lots of information, services, testimonials , and gallery http://www.littlehappyhounds.co.uk

So this last few weeks I have been avoiding walking the dogs up on Eccles Pike for various reasons,  the main one being it was October half term so not comfortable taking groups of dogs up there when everyones off work schools are closed.

so I have been traveling further out too make sure my dogs have a great walk, various terrains, quiet places so they can enjoy a proper walk off leads. As a dog walker we walk in small well managed groups, all my clients have good recall so are off leads, the places I have been going are the Goyt Valley and Taxal.  Last year I centralised the business a bit and we stopped covering New Mills, I had a few dogs in New Mills but the majority were in Whaley Bridge, Chapel-en-le-Frith and Chinley, I basically did this too cut back on car time, it was literally raking too long to pick dogs up, A555 has done many wonderful things including making the A6 much busier.

So I tend too do three one hour groups a day, the first two my morning and lunch time group tend to be busier and my third walk is always nice and quieter less dogs on that walk , so older dogs, ad hoc dogs can go on that walk, just depends what time of day people are looking for, with travel and the dog walks I work 9:30 too about 4 most days sometimes later with the cat visits.

So now I have dog walking  and cat sitting clients in Chinley, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Whaley Bridge and Buxworth which are very much areas we cover. Little Happy Hounds is fully insured, trusted key holder.  Puppy visits, dog nature walks, and pet sitting.

74607699_2961563417211687_2926816708083580928_n

When I started the business back in 2012, there was not many people dog walking, the few I knew of were word of mouth ‘mature ladies’ shall we say, few were doing it the way I was website, using social media, how things have changed seven years down the line, in the face of all the new competition, we are still here as a small local business, still thriving and still focusing on our ethos, which is to provide dogs with excellent countryside walks and too offer the most caring personalised service we can, here is too the next seven years as I feel with my new van and my new clients our recent move that I am just getting started.

Winter has landed in the High Peak I have some niggling cold which is not. helping but everywhere is feeling cold, wintry, dare I say it very muddy. The next few months are going to be busy with the dogs I walk and the cat sitting bookings, over the Christmas period I take a bit of time off and return second week of January fully charged raring too go. The photos in this blog are all recent from last weeks dog walks and cat visits. find us on Facebook too follow our adventures in full.

Aaron

OUR DOG WALKING SERVICES.

Good lord the weather this weekend, very very wet, has not stopped raining yesterday was more heavy showers today is just constant rain, so very good time to write a post in our Little Happy Hounds blog.

I am thinking services, so we offer three main pet care services, dog walking puppy visits and cat feeding.  For this post we look at our dog walking services.

69473712_2828561973845166_1101781810049712128_n

As a dog walker I walk in smalll groups off leads, If a client needs me to have their dog longer than just one walk, I do two walks with travel time it takes up most of the day thats our little happy hounds answer to doggy daycare, eventually I am planning to get a license too do doggy care but it will be very selective just for my clients and it will have to work around my dog, this being his house and his rules, he is old now so its not always fair to have a young dog bouncing at him.

So at the moment we do dog nature walks, proper walks, the one hour begins once we are at the walk and out of the car I don’t count travel time, and on quiet days if it is the last walk we often do longer and I don’t charge any extra for that ! I think a lot of these doggy daycare places, especially the ones inside of industrial units, don’t really give dogs what they need, the great outdoors, time spent in nature, all the smells of the countryside.

70869966_2869724663062230_8121434663089602560_n

I prefer the dogs off leads, I have seen dog walkers with dogs on and off on the same walk and its not for me, all our clients need too have adequate recall with my younger clients this is something I actively work on. I don’t offer solo one too one walks as such if people want a quieter walk lower numbers my walk number 3 is always a good option, the lunch time walk gets busy on certain days as does my morning walk, my insurance will be let me take 8 dogs, which too me is shocking my maximum is six and thats only if I can go somewhere quiet and depend on which dogs are on that walk I prefer groups of five and fours.

I prefer going interesting areas avoiding low level walks when I can, like too take the dogs hiking, the Goyt valley,  Eccles Pike, Crackern Edge are places I often go, I have also done walks around Hayfield, and Lantern Pike.

70955381_2869723409729022_407621932880494592_n

So I have been dog walking professionally now for over 7 years, in that time I think I’ve walked every age, shape, breed of dog going, I have walked black labs, Great Danes crossed with a black lab, a husky dog,  smaller breeds, like chihuahuas, shih tzus, a lot of cockapoos and a lot of cockerspaniels, I have also looked after and walked older dogs, one of my first dog walking clients, in Chapel-en-le-Frith was a older cocker spaniel called Barney,  I then looked after a really old red setter called Ruby and of course their was the lovely Bones, he was some kind of cross a rescue dog he defiantly had German shepherd in him, currently I walk a rescue dog called ruby who is our oldest client at little happy hounds.  Through dog ownership I have expierence caring for dogs even longer than the seven years.

If you interested in our dog walking services or cat sitting or puppy visits, you can call me or email me 07732265149 or info@littlehappyhounds.co.uk , we have a main website http://www.littlehappyhounds.co.uk I also have two Facebook pages little happy cats and little happy hounds,

we have client reviews on the Facebook pages on the main website, on yell, our google listing, and on free business index,

We are based in Chinley, fully insured, trusted key holder, we cover Chinley, Whaley Bridge, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Buxworth, Furness Vale, High Peak.

As off the end of 2018 we centralised the business so sadly can no longer cover New Mills, Birch Vale and Hayfield.

Why Choose Little Happy Hounds.

So in this post I will talk about the dog walking, cat sitting and puppy visit’s work I do. We live in such sparsely populated area a few villages a few towns and let me tell you we have far to many dog walkers in our area now, ‘my humble opinion’ if your reading this and want to make a quick buck don’t it will take you ages to get new dogs that are not part of your friend and family network, that being said about new dog walkers its not effected our pet care services at Little Happy Hounds, even with the new ones who have uncut everyone by charging slightly less, you get what you pay for in my mind.

I think the reason we have no seen this affect us at Little Happy Hounds is firstly I have very loyal caring client based.

Secondly I think of my business, my dogs, cats and their humans as one big extended family I will aways go that extra mile to look after and accommodate all my clients.

So how I am still getting new enquiries in the face of such new competition; with huge branded brightly coloured vans every corner I take,  I like too think that its  firstly word of mouth, secondly facebook Instagram and twitter were I demonstrate what we do, thirdly blogging.  But who knows. its working whatever it is, thank you everyone.

So within this realm of pet care its not very well regulated, common sense needs to prevail, you wont catch me with my dogs off leads crossing the dam bridge in between the two cars park at Fernilee for example; something I have now seen two new dog walkers do, it’s a road, a quiet road but a road all the same.

69321408_10157266730872221_923993945229230080_n

You will not catch me walking down Eccles lane from Eccles pike on my mobile phone with two dog clients on leads and then fail to move out the way of traffic; again something I have seen lately I try very hard not to use my phone when I am with the dogs full stop; except for taking pictures at an appropriate time, again common sense needs to prevail.

If other new dog walkers don’t like me writing these things, then don’t do them were I can see them. End of the day when is see these things it really hurts my feelings as people have no idea what their dog walkers are doing with their pets, being a lovely person does not make you a great dog walker.

Lastly is it ethical??  There are some breeds I just wont walk and have been asked as they are so interbred they have to have nose jobs to help them breathe, nope , I don’t want that responsibility or that representation for Little Happy Hounds.

68898287_2804005026300861_3249966289338236928_n

Also with what is ethical, walking a group of dogs all off lead except one nervous one, or aggressive,  on a flexi lead. I do walk two sisters one of fleix again this is very much a 1-2-1 two sisters dog walk, don’t get me wrong I use a Flexi for my own dog when I am off work,  however I would not use one with large group of dogs its inappropriate and at its worse dangerous,  nor would I walk any dog with aggression or nervousness within my pack of happy socialised dogs, its not ethical if you do that your greedy trying to walk as many dogs as you can. we are not trainers or animal behaviourists we are Dog walkers and pet sitters.

I could go on but don’t want to come across as a meany, when all I ever have done want to do is provide safe comfortable group walks for my dogs, were dogs get on are happy to be out and can be trusted off leads when its safe to do so.

I offer Maturity, I am a married man, in my very late 30s, home owner dog owner I  have lived a very full happy life as a result I am a teenage girl walking dogs living at home. I am very a incomer of the High Peak area my home will always be Newcastle upon Tyne in mind but we just love the High Peak and living in the National Peak District park boundary is now a dream come true. We moved to New Mills in 2005 Whaley Bridge 2014 and mostly recently have found a permanent home in Chinley our new house is within the boundary of the Peak District.

69297283_2802152359819461_4454423269738545152_n

Branded uniforms, I see lots of new businesses on social media posts , creating emphasis on this that they have amazing shiny new branded uniforms, I am with dogs most days I don’t see clients other humans most days,  so too were a branded uniform is not going to benefit anyone especially me, its not what I am about, my appearance goes out the window when I am knee deep in mud covered in dog hair, so to walk around in branded and neat uniform makes me want to burst out laughing. I wear whats comfortable when I am out with the dogs.

Also with being non uniform comes discretion when I am walking  smaller groups I don’t want all of  in sundry,  knowing I am a dog walker, I am wanting to blend in when I can so wearing and uniform wont allow me to do that, plus visiting clients homes when your at work, on holiday for cat visits; wearing a uniform letting myself in and out your house at set times rocking up in a branded  van its all a red flag for me; if anyone is watching your home you have had it…

69409855_2802155429819154_3233994186432708608_n

So I am a one man show, with seven years experience running little happy hounds, prior to that I looked after friends cats and through dog ownership I have had a lot more experience than the seven years.

At Little Happy Hounds we have done and will do walk dogs of all breeds and sizes,   however we specialise in the care and dog walking of smaller breeds, my own dog is Shih Tzu cross, I have walked Shih thus  cavapoos, Chihuahuas Westies and all sorts of smaller doggies since we began life the clue being in the name of the business.

My puppy service is  not just about keeping a puppy company while your at work, I will advice all new dog owners, help with bite inhibition, recommend vets, groomers, aides, trainers, help with  recall, socialising and toilet breaking  I have looked after  a lot of puppies and hopefully helped a lot of my clients out along the way in in fact lots of our little happy hound crew were puppies first. Thats very special for me as I get very attached probably too attached and form a very close bond with my puppy visits come dog walking clients.

67682937_2764705650230799_8877921881592692736_n

Dog nature walks, so when I can I avoid parks low level flat walks and fields, I take my dogs on adventures, sometimes longer than hour, I walk in small groups , I allow lots of time off leads, work on recall and obedience, and in general make sure my dogs have fun, exercise, play time, my walks are varied Eccles Pike and Goyt Valley being two of my favourites and the dogs too.  A phrase I have blogged about since 2012 about my LHH walks is ‘ off the beaten track’ and it really is I try very hard to avoid people cattle sheep and walk the dogs quiet places however sometimes we do have to go busier places so my dogs need to have good recall.

68653566_2800388699995827_8684427162456948736_n

Cat sitting. So when I am not out in the peaks hiking with the LHH woofs I am cat sitting. So this is visiting peoples homes when they are on holiday, its primarly cats but we do get a lot fo smaller pets, recently I looked after a heard of alpacas and chickens, this service is very personalised, so I have indoor cats outdoor cats cats that hug me cats who hide from me, elderly cats who need medication, so I offer a very caring, very experienced cat feeding service, I try and cater for everyones pets specific needs.

Trusted key holder, years of experience, offering a very personalised caring pet care services at all time, we cover Chinley, Furness Vale, Whaley Bridge, Buxworth and Chapel-en-le-Frith High Peak.

Jurassic Holiday

So this last year we did Christmas 2018 a bit differently, we are usually at home and we usually go away for New Year. However this year we went down south, to spend Christmas with some of my immediate family in Portsmouth. So this post in  my blog is about traveling and holidays in England.

This included my mother, step father, sister, two brothers,  their partners, their partners, my mums very old dog Barney and my brothers doggy Ralph. Anyway it was great Christmas catching up even though we all came down with the dreaded stomach bug doing the rounds.

West Dorset and New Year.

After Christmas, we went off to West Dorset to see in the New Year at the Jurassic coast., hired a lovely, rather over priced dog friendly cottage, in the village of Whitchurch Canonicorum, the nearest towns were Bridport and Lyme Regis. What a beautiful area we were staying in, we only had four days so didn’t do half as much as we could of, everything I usually want to do was their, walking, inland hilly walks, beach cliff walks, shopping, countryside, beautiful towns. The highlights being seeing the amazing cliff faces at West Bay, and a walk we did from Burton Bradstock to West Bay, visiting Lyme Regis on New Years Day, found several antique/ junk shops purchased a few trinkets for home, and doing an amazing walk on the Cobb as the sun was setting, I have to say even though we visited when it was rammed with people, Lyme Regis is a really beautiful town.

Another walk we did was to incorporate two hills on one walk, we actually did three hills in total that day as we also did the Golden Cap from sea town, the two hills we did on walk was first Pilsdon Penn and Lewesdon Hill, the latter was tree cladded so not much of a view, wonderful walk back from it to the car threw farm land following foot paths. Pilsdon Penn and lovely views looking over the open countryside.

Pilsdon Penn & Leweson Hill

Of course our little holiday was a dog friendly holiday, we picked the cottage as it had a huge garden which sort of double upped as a meadow, the dog was in heaven sniffing around out there. Everywhere we went we found dog friendly walks, dog friendly shops and cafes. It being late December into January there was no restrictions about dogs on beaches, so lots of opportunity for dogs to walk run jump if need be. So I highly recommend west Dorset. Beyond seeing the family and visiting several beautiful counties, what was really nice was the milder climate we get down south, we were away 11 days in total and the temperature stayed in double figures the entire time we were away plus it didn’t rain.

Back to work I go.

Once we got back home I was still off work for four days which was lovely to rest up as we had done so much walking in Dorset. On Saturday had a small gathering at home for some family members and close friends we had not managed to see around Christmas, then I was back in the helm of all things doggy and Little Happy Hounds on Monday. We have had a week of mental weather, rain, fog, mist, cold, mild. I was glad to be back with my dog walking clients, it was only my second week walking our new boy Charlie, a rescued Labrador cross, and he’s really good on walks bless him, he has settled in with Little Happy Hounds, it was nice to be back in the peak district, with the dogs.
