happy hounds High Peak dog walking

As a pawfressional dog walker I am very thankful and very lucky of all the wonderful dogs I walk. They are 95% of the time well behaved and excellent on walks, we have fun on every walk I make sure everyone is exercised, stimulated mentally that they have lost of company from me and the other dogs.  I return all my clients home very happy hounds.

we avoid busy places so they are running around off leads, if we see joggers or people I call them in they sit and wait for a treat the dogs, the dogs who I think might not wait for a treat, I grab the dangly bit on their Little Happy Hounds harnesses so they cant run up too people we don’t know. I try very hard too keep al my dogs under control they are all socialised and very well behaved friendly doggies.

As a dog walker I walk in small groups, all my dogs have great recall and are good off the lead, I don’t walk a mixture of dogs on lead and dogs off as I like my hands free at all times too control the dogs off leads.  I take the dogs off the beaten track, try very hard too avoid people and live stock, sheep I have zero tolerance approach as in I wont walk the dogs anywhere near them. my walks include Goyt Valley in the Peak District. I have regular dog walking clients in Chinley, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Buxworth and Whaley Bridge which are all areas I cover for dog walking, puppy visits and cat sitting.

Jurassic Holiday

So this last year we did Christmas 2018 a bit differently, we are usually at home and we usually go away for New Year. However this year we went down south, to spend Christmas with some of my immediate family in Portsmouth. So this post in  my blog is about traveling and holidays in England.

This included my mother, step father, sister, two brothers,  their partners, their partners, my mums very old dog Barney and my brothers doggy Ralph. Anyway it was great Christmas catching up even though we all came down with the dreaded stomach bug doing the rounds.

West Dorset and New Year.

After Christmas, we went off to West Dorset to see in the New Year at the Jurassic coast., hired a lovely, rather over priced dog friendly cottage, in the village of Whitchurch Canonicorum, the nearest towns were Bridport and Lyme Regis. What a beautiful area we were staying in, we only had four days so didn’t do half as much as we could of, everything I usually want to do was their, walking, inland hilly walks, beach cliff walks, shopping, countryside, beautiful towns. The highlights being seeing the amazing cliff faces at West Bay, and a walk we did from Burton Bradstock to West Bay, visiting Lyme Regis on New Years Day, found several antique/ junk shops purchased a few trinkets for home, and doing an amazing walk on the Cobb as the sun was setting, I have to say even though we visited when it was rammed with people, Lyme Regis is a really beautiful town.

Another walk we did was to incorporate two hills on one walk, we actually did three hills in total that day as we also did the Golden Cap from sea town, the two hills we did on walk was first Pilsdon Penn and Lewesdon Hill, the latter was tree cladded so not much of a view, wonderful walk back from it to the car threw farm land following foot paths. Pilsdon Penn and lovely views looking over the open countryside.

Pilsdon Penn & Leweson Hill

Of course our little holiday was a dog friendly holiday, we picked the cottage as it had a huge garden which sort of double upped as a meadow, the dog was in heaven sniffing around out there. Everywhere we went we found dog friendly walks, dog friendly shops and cafes. It being late December into January there was no restrictions about dogs on beaches, so lots of opportunity for dogs to walk run jump if need be. So I highly recommend west Dorset. Beyond seeing the family and visiting several beautiful counties, what was really nice was the milder climate we get down south, we were away 11 days in total and the temperature stayed in double figures the entire time we were away plus it didn’t rain.

Back to work I go.

Once we got back home I was still off work for four days which was lovely to rest up as we had done so much walking in Dorset. On Saturday had a small gathering at home for some family members and close friends we had not managed to see around Christmas, then I was back in the helm of all things doggy and Little Happy Hounds on Monday. We have had a week of mental weather, rain, fog, mist, cold, mild. I was glad to be back with my dog walking clients, it was only my second week walking our new boy Charlie, a rescued Labrador cross, and he’s really good on walks bless him, he has settled in with Little Happy Hounds, it was nice to be back in the peak district, with the dogs.

the weekend edition 1

So I think every weekend ,with this being a blog all about Little Happy Hounds, I will recap the prior week, the dog friendly walks we have been on and any news about Little Happy Hounds ! So its not been the usual week, as a lot of my dog walking clients were off for half term, so I have managed to get away with one walk most days, however the pets sitting side of the business Little Happy Cats has been busy, today alone Saturday I have done five cat sitting visits for 12 cats. As a small business with just little old me running the show thats busy.

The stand out walk this week was Monday as I had some of my family with me for the weekend, including my dog obsessed six year old nephew George, he had already been on a few of my walks in the summer when he visited with my mam and sister, so he had his firm favourites, this time around he mention Amy, the German shepherd I walk he liked her and he also mentioned Oscar and Oscar was on this walk, sadly he had forgotten about Fritz, had show him photographic evidence of him with Fritz, another one of his favourites,, he was also convinced Fritz was called Bradly this time around.  Anyway so we collected the dogs it was three clients and my dog and we went too the logging road Fernilee, Goyt Valley. Four dogs, two young kids, one teenager and my brother partner. It was great walk dogs ran around a lot, did not. get many good pics as I was focusing on toddlers and dogs and keeping them safe. But the pic below is great, my brother partner took it, so thats my step niece Abbie, my young toddler nephew Noah my dog mad nephew George, myself and the dogs, Max, Scrappy, Oscar and Fritz peeping out from behind the log. I have always recommend Fernilee as a dog friendly walk, just be cautious on the logging road as last few times I have been up their I have seen very reactive dogs on leads.

Scrappy loves the Goyt Valley

So at the weekend one of my favourite places too take my dog is Fox Low Edge, the Goyt Valley, the Goyt Valley is in-between between Whaley Bridge and Buxton, the Peak District national park. For a dog friendly walk it is great, there are no sheep or cows up there and we are out of nesting season, so he was off lead from the minute we left the car. We had lots of autumn sunshine and I managed to take a few great pics of my dog Scrappy, he’s looking great, had his teeth cleaned last week, his fur trimmed and bathed this weekend bless him I can’t believe he is almost 9 years old still runs around like a puppy, he is a Shorkie, cross breed of a Shih Tzu  and Yorkie.

Lantern Pike doggy hike

So most lunch times I take a group of dogs up Lantern Pike, as one of my clients Monday to Friday dog lives up near there. We meet a lot of people on holiday up there tourists, I loose time talking to them and I am always amazed at how far and wide people come to visit Hayfield the Peak District, I have talked to people from Glasgow, Bourmouth and Norfolk up there before now, anyway I always get compliments on how well behaved and socialised the dogs are.

views from Lantern Pike

The hill its self is sheep free, but the field to the left of the bridal way is full of sheep and in places the wall is falling down, should be fixed really so I am very careful too navigate the dogs past these gaps, on top of sheep we are also watching out for bikes, horses and reactive dogs. Most the time we don’t see a soul up there especially in bad weather the dogs love to romp around the heather and we go right up to the summit, this is the kind of walk we offer, dogs are mostly off leads, walking in small groups, off the beaten track, more of a hike than a walk,  all pics are from this last week, Thursday I believe, the little happy hounds do lantern pike, we have a shih tzu cross, a cavapoo, cavachon and cavaliers, I do walk bigger dogs but we have a majority number of smaller breeds I guess as I have Scrappy the shih tzu cross it has attracted more little dogs which is great, love them all big and small.
