August in pictures

So in this post just want to highlight our lovely walks and happy hounds, all the photos you are about to see are from our dog walking adventures in and around the Peak District in August 2020. Find me on Facebook to follow our daily adventures.

Our dog walking services are available in the village of Chinley Derbyshire where I am based, I also cover Whaley Bridge, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Buxworth, High Peak, fully insured, highly experienced and very caring.  dog walker cat sitting and puppy visits.

So I don’t have any family in this area and my circle of friends is small, so when someone posts for recommendation for a dog walker on a local Facebook group, my aunts, uncles, friends, wont all jump on the post and recommend me singing my praises,  as they all live up in the North East so I don’t get an easy ride when it comes too gaining new enquiries. So what I have done from day one is made sure actual customer reviews clients recommendations are everywhere, this includes testimony page on the main website , our Facebook business page, and our online listings on Yell, Google places and Free Business index ! For example on our google listing for Little Happy Hounds we now have 9 reviews !

I did have 60 reviews on Facebook, 50 plus on the Little Happy Hounds page and we had 10 lovely reviews on the Little Happy Cats page, I took the little happy cats page down too concentrate on one page which annoyingly meant I lost the review I had !! So I am hoping was we move into 2020 I will gain some new Facebook ones on the little happy hounds page make up for the fabulous ones I lost !

Little Happy Hounds, began life in 2012 in New Mills, offering dog walking, cat sitting and puppy visits in the High Peak. As a dog walker, I am very caring, experienced, and reliable, with cat sitting I offer a very bespoke personalised service, over the years I have looked after older cats, shy cats, friendly cats, cats who need medication cats who need to be brushed we caterer them all following clients specific instructions.

SERVICES dog walking.

Leaving your dog at home on their own is never ideal, but here at Little Happy Hounds, we aim to make it that little bit easier by providing a professional, caring, highly experienced dog walking service that you and your dog can rely on. I love dogs and I love walking around the Peak District, I often take the dogs to the Goyt Valley, Taxal and other places, its brilliant to watch them off leads, playing, socialising and having a fabulous time for photos and videos of our walks find us on social media. The photos on this post is just some of this weeks walk.

We aim to exercise your dog and give them the chance to socialise with other dogs, meaning your dog is returned home content and physically tired, so that they will be relaxed & settled, resting until you return home from a busy day at work.

On a typical walk, we will collect your dog from your home and at a time convenient to you. Whatever the weather, we will safely transport your dog by car (or on foot depending on your location) to some of our favorite places, Goyt Valley, Eccles Pike and more. I tend to avoid low level walks, parks etc, they can get busy for one thing, i prefer to get my hiking boots on and take the dogs on a proper walk, off lead ‘when it is safe to do so’, places with varied terrain, lots of different smells for them, making the most of the beautiful High Peak, Derbyshire area.

All our dogs are returned home, safe, happy and content and very tired! We’ll also clean up muddy paws with a towel if need be.

Our policy at Little Happy Hounds is to stay ‘small’ and ‘local’. As a dog walker our dogs are only ever walked in groups of a maximum of six , i do however much prefer smaller walking groups of up to four so six only happens when we are very busy, by walking in smaller groups we guarantee a more personalised, safe caring service. We offer our pet care services, dog walking, puppy visits and cat sitting in the Village of Chinley which is were we are based, we also cover and have fabulous clients in Buxworth, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Furness Vale and Whaley Bridge, High Peak Derbyshire.

We also offer a free consultation at your home, before we take on any new clients where your dog gets to meet us and we can get an idea of your dog’s personality and what their specific needs are. All new dog clients have a initial four week trial with Little Happy Hounds, too make sure everyone gets on. Little Happy Hounds now has seven years of service in pet care in and around this area,  trusted key holder, CRB checked, fully insured, no employees offering a small local business.

March Happy Hounds.

so March has been a slightly quieter month for Little Happy Hounds, with February being very busy a quieter March is very much welcomed.

February was busier as had quite a few cat sitting durations booked in over the half term especially, March has gone quiet as a few dogs have took holidays and another few cancelled for various reasons this week.

So I have managed to catch up doing all the other things like paper work, cleaning my house, shopping, next week is looking busy. Anyway we have enjoyed some lovely dog friendly walks, despite the weather, its been rainy its been muddy and its been very muddy but my wonderful doggy charges have hopefully had a wonderful time in the Peak District Derbyshire.

So this week, we have enjoyed the windy delights of Storm Gareth, I have done dog walks at Fernilee Reservoir, the woods in Hayfield, and on a clients private 7 acre piece of land. As a dog walker I go off the beaten track offering off lead walks, I walk in small groups. When I am not walking the happy hounds I am busy with the Little Happy Cats our cat feeding services, for dog walking and cat sitting I cover Whaley Bridge, were I am currently based top of Macc Road in the Linglongs estate, I also cover Chinley, Buxworth and Chapel-en-le-Frith High Peak.

All the photos in this post is from some of this weeks dog walks and cat visits, find us on social media to follow our adventures.

Jurassic Holiday

So this last year we did Christmas 2018 a bit differently, we are usually at home and we usually go away for New Year. However this year we went down south, to spend Christmas with some of my immediate family in Portsmouth. So this post in  my blog is about traveling and holidays in England.

This included my mother, step father, sister, two brothers,  their partners, their partners, my mums very old dog Barney and my brothers doggy Ralph. Anyway it was great Christmas catching up even though we all came down with the dreaded stomach bug doing the rounds.

West Dorset and New Year.

After Christmas, we went off to West Dorset to see in the New Year at the Jurassic coast., hired a lovely, rather over priced dog friendly cottage, in the village of Whitchurch Canonicorum, the nearest towns were Bridport and Lyme Regis. What a beautiful area we were staying in, we only had four days so didn’t do half as much as we could of, everything I usually want to do was their, walking, inland hilly walks, beach cliff walks, shopping, countryside, beautiful towns. The highlights being seeing the amazing cliff faces at West Bay, and a walk we did from Burton Bradstock to West Bay, visiting Lyme Regis on New Years Day, found several antique/ junk shops purchased a few trinkets for home, and doing an amazing walk on the Cobb as the sun was setting, I have to say even though we visited when it was rammed with people, Lyme Regis is a really beautiful town.

Another walk we did was to incorporate two hills on one walk, we actually did three hills in total that day as we also did the Golden Cap from sea town, the two hills we did on walk was first Pilsdon Penn and Lewesdon Hill, the latter was tree cladded so not much of a view, wonderful walk back from it to the car threw farm land following foot paths. Pilsdon Penn and lovely views looking over the open countryside.

Pilsdon Penn & Leweson Hill

Of course our little holiday was a dog friendly holiday, we picked the cottage as it had a huge garden which sort of double upped as a meadow, the dog was in heaven sniffing around out there. Everywhere we went we found dog friendly walks, dog friendly shops and cafes. It being late December into January there was no restrictions about dogs on beaches, so lots of opportunity for dogs to walk run jump if need be. So I highly recommend west Dorset. Beyond seeing the family and visiting several beautiful counties, what was really nice was the milder climate we get down south, we were away 11 days in total and the temperature stayed in double figures the entire time we were away plus it didn’t rain.

Chesil Beach

Back to work I go.

Once we got back home I was still off work for four days which was lovely to rest up as we had done so much walking in Dorset. On Saturday had a small gathering at home for some family members and close friends we had not managed to see around Christmas, then I was back in the helm of all things doggy and Little Happy Hounds on Monday. We have had a week of mental weather, rain, fog, mist, cold, mild. I was glad to be back with my dog walking clients, it was only my second week walking our new boy Charlie, a rescued Labrador cross, and he’s really good on walks bless him, he has settled in with Little Happy Hounds, it was nice to be back in the peak district, with the dogs.

busy busy.

So not wrote any posts for a few weeks last few weeks of March into early April have been a world wind, personally and professionally. I turned 37, then my dog turned 8, we then took a long weekend away to Anglesey, first weekend of April. A lovely client of mine loaned me their lovely holiday home, i have never been Anglesey it was great we had sunny weather and the Island is blessed with beautiful beaches, we loved all of Anglesey we saw but were particularly blown away by the North coast, national trust beaches, and walks and its just so scenic. My kind of holiday, very dog friendly, lots of awesome walks, and amazing beaches.

Once home late on Tuesday eve, i was back to work, Wednesday to Sunday were a blur, feeding cats, at the weekend, on Saturday i was asked to walk my dog client Mario, we ended up taking him and my dog up Kinder Scout, 4.5 hour walk, went to Kinder Downfall, Mermaids pool, it was really hot weather never seen Kinder that busy at the top !! We also looked after new cat sitting client Roary, he has been booked in for two week cat sitting gig for July, so had not actually gotten around to meeting him, last minute they needed me last weekend so, went to meet him, and looked after for a two days. Hes very sweet, very friendly. They also have a dog, very cute Pug called Pugsley, so i maybe giving him the occasionally visit watch this space.

Mario and Scrappy up Kinder.

So i have decided 2017 is going to  be my fitness year. As ever the distinctions between my personal life and my job are very blurred, so in both instances, i am gong to be doing a lot more walking, and a lot more cycling. It started a few weeks back, i started cycling a few days a week to my last walk and back home again, and on Saturday just gone going on a a doggy hike up Kinder Scout. I have been very quiet this week, as i have five teachers on my books all of whom are off for Easter, this is not a complaint, as i am rather enjoying talking smaller groups out.  I have a few cats booked in so it all balances out, at the moment i am using my early finishes to do paper work, i caught up with all manner of things, last few days it being the end of the financial year, i did two 1.5 hour walks today, visited cat, answered emails, cleaned my house, and on top of all of that, i managed to get blogging again and here we are

new client Roary

Services and about us.

Little Happy Hounds began life in August 2012 in New Mills, back then we offered, doggy daycare, dog walking and holiday care for dogs. As the years have rolled on, we now offer dog walking, cat sitting, pet sitting and puppy visits only. I do sometimes offer daycare at the weekend, but for my current dog walking clients.

My big thing was to keep Little Happy Hounds, small and local, to stay away from expanding the business, take on employees, and cover a massive area. I am very much a one man show, accept for occasion help from my Shih Tzu Yorkie cross Scrappy. I just feel i can offer more care, and a more of a personalised service if i do all the work, its great for my clients as they know who they are dealing with and obviously great for the animals i care for as i can build a bond with them.

As a dog walker, i make the most of our beautiful area in High Peak, the Peak District National Park, is a stone throw away from home in Whaley Bridge, my walks include, the Goyt Valley, Eccles Pike, Lantern Pike, Hayfield, Lyme Park and many others. I walk in small groups, all my dogs are off leads, when its safe to do so, I feel this is the best way for them to exercise, sniff and explore, I have tried walking dogs on leads ( who can’t be off ) and having dogs off leads at the same time, it does not work for me, so one of the big things when i take new dogs on is they need have excellent recall,  and with my younger puppy clients, i work on recall training on their walks.

The one hour walk begins when we get to the location for the walk, i don’t include the collection and dropping off time.  I don’t use cages, or use a branded van. I have a estate car of sorts, with a huge boot, dog guard up, and as its a work car i have dog seat belt clips on the backseat. I walk in groups of four, fives and six’s mostly, i wont walk more than six at any one time, as thats what my insurance covers me for.

Pet sitting.

When I am not walking dogs i am feeding cats mostly, sometimes at the weekend, some of my cats get one visit a day, and some get two am and pm. This is very much a personalised, service, to meet individual needs of each client, as i feel all cats are very different in my experience.  Shy cats, young cats, old cats, indoor cats, outdoor cats, I care for them all. Our prices start at £7.00 for one visit and £11 for two visits per day, we have no hidden extra costs and we do not charge any extra for the weekend.

Little Happy Hounds and Cats, dog walker, cat sitting, pet care services. Established in 2012, we offer a caring, personalised, experienced service. We don’t have employees or use branded vans, we offer a discreet, personalised service. Covering Whaley Bridge, New Mills, Furness Vale, Hayfield, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Chinley, Buxworth, High Peak.

Toddbrook reservoir Whaley Bridge

One of my favourite place to take my clients is Toddbrook Reservoir, Whaley Bridge. Its actually just a 5 minute walk from my new home off the top of Macc Rd. Pictures I took last friday, the reservoir was low exposing sandy beaches, and autumn sunshine lead to me taking some lovely snaps!
