service spotlight- puppy visits.

So away from the dog walking one of the services I provide at Little Happy Hounds is puppy visits / puppy care/ puppy sitting.  I provide puppy visits in the areas of Chinley, where I am based, Whaley Bridge, Buxworth, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Furness Vale, High Peak, Derbyshire. Other areas maybe covered, for enquires, call 07732265149 or visit main website

http://www.littlehappyhounds.co.uk

or find us on Facebook,

https://www.facebook.com/littlehappyhounds/

I can also be emailed directly info@littlehappyhounds.co.uk

So like most of our services this is a very personalised service. I call in to visit a young puppy, once or twice a day, break up a long day at home alone, feed them, provide company, cuddles, playtime, and I also offer praise based training, recall, bite inhibition and lots of socialising.

I am not a trainer at all so I strongly advice all clients with puppies to join a puppy training class, I have to say in the years I have been a dog walker it shows which puppies have not been to a class and which ones have.

A lot of dog walkers especially around here, offer puppy visits but do they do offer the training I do alongside my visit or is it just cuddles ? I am big believer in socialising little and often with young dogs,  every scenario going, walks in busy places, people, walks near busy roads, its important to get your puppy use to lots of different sights and sounds, I also do recall, toilet training,  socialising and bite inhibition, what tends to happen at Little Happy Hounds the puppies eventually go onto to one of group dog walks, which is really special for me as I have obviously built up a very strong bond with the puppy so for them to become my dog walking client is a honour and I find the ones that have been my puppies first, listen to me, have excellent recall and are very happy well rounded dogs.

My experience, is varied, I have read puppy training books, I recommend serval to my clients, I also have puppy experience through dog ownership and of course I have puppy experience running little happy hounds for the last 8 years I have cared for many puppies during this time.

January 2020 blog

So I have not wrote a post about Little Happy Hounds in a while on this blog, I have been concentrating my efforts in writing posts on the blog that is part of my website, http://www.littlehappyhounds.co.uk so a post on here a long over due.

So far the new year has been kind too me, we are having a milder winter so works that little bit easier, its always very knackering dog walking in cold weather and in winter in general. So I have had some changes, I have new cockapoo puppy  Ralph Joining me in February for twice daily twice weekly puppy visits and eventually he will be moving on my lunch time group walk, Tuesday and Thursdays, I have new dog gizmo the Shih Tzu joing us for a walk once a week, like Ralph the new puppy he is also in Whaley Bridge, and a lady contacted me about a terrier cross in Buxworth so I am hoping she will come back too me again this all for next month, so if those three join Little Happy Hounds it will be a busy February, I wont able to take new dogs on until Ralph is a bit bigger as puppy visits play havoc with my dog walking schedule. Anyway lots of positives.

82092008_3127328420635185_1588488766752817152_n

Two lovely doggies I walk left, a German shepherd and rescue dog, I have walked them for five years, they are from the same family, the little one Ruby  who is a rescue has always been a bit skittish in the past she has run away from my walks, so for the longest time I kept her on a lead but last year I started letting her off, anyway two Fridays ago she ran away and from me for no good reason really, for me  it was the last time, beyond the stress of a client vanishing, I was working with a tummy bug so I was already unwell, anyway I found her. Once I spoke too the owner about the scenario I wanted too do some changes in how I am walking them. I offered too do lead walk only around the park for her or if they wanted too leave it was totally understandable and it would be on good terms with myself, on top of Ruby being skittish, she is also deaf and elderly, her German shepherd sister Amy is also advancing into her twilight years, anyway they left. I was a bit shocked at the enormity of it I have walked them for half a decade I am very fond of both of them; thats the thing with dog walking you get emotionally invested in other peoples pets !! I have been down this road before it hurts but I have too switch off put my business head on, and be thankful that they all left on good terms with myself. So I will miss them but onwards and upwards.

Amy and Ruby I will miss you both x

January has been busy, I have done some cat sitting gigs, Baz and co and queenie, and a lot of my regular clients have asked for extra walks so last few weeks and next week, its been busy, one dog I see usually three days a week, asked for four until March then a few ays ago asked fro friday as well for the next two weeks so she is now albeit temporary like a full time client, lovely springer I walk called Roxy joined us last year, and she is just one of many of my dogs who have asked for extra walks.

So I am taking moment too appreciate how steady work is, new enquiries, but also in the face of so much competition now, so I am looking inwardly at Little Happy Hounds, and wanting too highlight the things I love about the business whats working and what isn’t, I don’t advertise which is a problem, but I have now started writing more blogs, my next task is a new flyer too convey the new message of 2020 and I am considering a flyer drop.  I can take on more cat sitting and smaller pet visits nearer too home, I have spaces for new dogs , Fridays possibly Wednesday and if anyone wants a later walk about 2 onwards that viable most days, everyone always wants the lunch time walk which was partly  why Amy and Ruby were such great clients they were flexible about what time I could go for the girls.

So too conclude, January 2020 has been fabulous for me a small business  as a dog walker, I am fully insured, this coming August little happy hounds will be 8 years old, I offer discretion for when your not at home, I don’t drive a branded company van, I specialise in proper dog nature walks, as a dog walker we go to the Goyt Valley and other places in the Peak District, I walk in small groups, off leads, I am a one man show as small local business I guarantee a more caring, reliable approach when it comes too my pet care services. Longer and shorter walks can be arranged in advance.  I am based in the village of Chinley, I have regular clients in Chinley, Buxworth, Whaley Bridge, Chapel-en-le-Frith, High Peak Derbyshire. Puppy care, cat feeding and dog walking services, find us on Facebook.

SERVICES dog walking.

Leaving your dog at home on their own is never ideal, but here at Little Happy Hounds, we aim to make it that little bit easier by providing a professional, caring, highly experienced dog walking service that you and your dog can rely on. I love dogs and I love walking around the Peak District, I often take the dogs to the Goyt Valley, Taxal and other places, its brilliant to watch them off leads, playing, socialising and having a fabulous time for photos and videos of our walks find us on social media. The photos on this post is just some of this weeks walk.

https://www.facebook.com/littlehappyhounds/

We aim to exercise your dog and give them the chance to socialise with other dogs, meaning your dog is returned home content and physically tired, so that they will be relaxed & settled, resting until you return home from a busy day at work.

69806180_2830363483665015_4370023606139224064_n

On a typical walk, we will collect your dog from your home and at a time convenient to you. Whatever the weather, we will safely transport your dog by car (or on foot depending on your location) to some of our favorite places, Goyt Valley, Eccles Pike and more. I tend to avoid low level walks, parks etc, they can get busy for one thing, i prefer to get my hiking boots on and take the dogs on a proper walk, off lead ‘when it is safe to do so’, places with varied terrain, lots of different smells for them, making the most of the beautiful High Peak, Derbyshire area.

All our dogs are returned home, safe, happy and content and very tired! We’ll also clean up muddy paws with a towel if need be.

Our policy at Little Happy Hounds is to stay ‘small’ and ‘local’. As a dog walker our dogs are only ever walked in groups of a maximum of six , i do however much prefer smaller walking groups of up to four so six only happens when we are very busy, by walking in smaller groups we guarantee a more personalised, safe caring service. We offer our pet care services, dog walking, puppy visits and cat sitting in the Village of Chinley which is were we are based, we also cover and have fabulous clients in Buxworth, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Furness Vale and Whaley Bridge, High Peak Derbyshire.

68653566_2800388699995827_8684427162456948736_n

We also offer a free consultation at your home, before we take on any new clients where your dog gets to meet us and we can get an idea of your dog’s personality and what their specific needs are. All new dog clients have a initial four week trial with Little Happy Hounds, too make sure everyone gets on. Little Happy Hounds now has seven years of service in pet care in and around this area,  trusted key holder, CRB checked, fully insured, no employees offering a small local business.

Puppy visit services.

Puppies when they are young need company. They also need feeding up to four times a day, they need any accidents cleared up and they need some training. Having raised puppies ourselves, we are very experienced in this area. We can come and visit your puppy when your out at work all day, let them out into your garden, feed them, play with them and give them lots of attention and care, and break up a long day for them.

This is a great opportunity for us to build a bond of trust with your young puppy, incase they become one of our dog walking clients, after they have been fully vaccinated. Over the years, many of our current dog walking clients, started out as our puppy visit clients. We offer a very caring bespoke puppy sitting service.

While we are doing our puppy visit, we offer basic reward praise based training, playtime and company, I can help with recall and bite inhibition, we also help with socialising and we make sure your puppy is happy and content when we leave. I am also available, for any questions you might have, should you be a first time dog owner, no question is ever to silly, over  the years i have picked up one or two things that i am always happy to share, as ever with any puppy visit client of Little Happy Hounds, we do not charge any extra for advice, recommendations,or any  help that you may require.

https://littlehappyhounds.co.uk/services/

Our services are available in Chinley, Buxworth, Whaley Bridge, Chapel-en-le-Frith High Peak. Fully insured, trusted key holder, years of experience.

Puppy visits-cat sitting and dog walking,

Why Choose Little Happy Hounds.

So in this post I will talk about the dog walking, cat sitting and puppy visit’s work I do. We live in such sparsely populated area a few villages a few towns and let me tell you we have far to many dog walkers in our area now, ‘my humble opinion’ if your reading this and want to make a quick buck don’t it will take you ages to get new dogs that are not part of your friend and family network, that being said about new dog walkers its not effected our pet care services at Little Happy Hounds, even with the new ones who have uncut everyone by charging slightly less, you get what you pay for in my mind.

I think the reason we have no seen this affect us at Little Happy Hounds is firstly I have very loyal caring client based.

Secondly I think of my business, my dogs, cats and their humans as one big extended family I will aways go that extra mile to look after and accommodate all my clients.

So how I am still getting new enquiries in the face of such new competition; with huge branded brightly coloured vans every corner I take,  I like too think that its  firstly word of mouth, secondly facebook Instagram and twitter were I demonstrate what we do, thirdly blogging.  But who knows. its working whatever it is, thank you everyone.

So within this realm of pet care its not very well regulated, common sense needs to prevail, you wont catch me with my dogs off leads crossing the dam bridge in between the two cars park at Fernilee for example; something I have now seen two new dog walkers do, it’s a road, a quiet road but a road all the same.

69321408_10157266730872221_923993945229230080_n

You will not catch me walking down Eccles lane from Eccles pike on my mobile phone with two dog clients on leads and then fail to move out the way of traffic; again something I have seen lately I try very hard not to use my phone when I am with the dogs full stop; except for taking pictures at an appropriate time, again common sense needs to prevail.

If other new dog walkers don’t like me writing these things, then don’t do them were I can see them. End of the day when is see these things it really hurts my feelings as people have no idea what their dog walkers are doing with their pets, being a lovely person does not make you a great dog walker.

Lastly is it ethical??  There are some breeds I just wont walk and have been asked as they are so interbred they have to have nose jobs to help them breathe, nope , I don’t want that responsibility or that representation for Little Happy Hounds.

68898287_2804005026300861_3249966289338236928_n

Also with what is ethical, walking a group of dogs all off lead except one nervous one, or aggressive,  on a flexi lead. I do walk two sisters one of fleix again this is very much a 1-2-1 two sisters dog walk, don’t get me wrong I use a Flexi for my own dog when I am off work,  however I would not use one with large group of dogs its inappropriate and at its worse dangerous,  nor would I walk any dog with aggression or nervousness within my pack of happy socialised dogs, its not ethical if you do that your greedy trying to walk as many dogs as you can. we are not trainers or animal behaviourists we are Dog walkers and pet sitters.

I could go on but don’t want to come across as a meany, when all I ever have done want to do is provide safe comfortable group walks for my dogs, were dogs get on are happy to be out and can be trusted off leads when its safe to do so.

I offer Maturity, I am a married man, in my very late 30s, home owner dog owner I  have lived a very full happy life as a result I am a teenage girl walking dogs living at home. I am very a incomer of the High Peak area my home will always be Newcastle upon Tyne in mind but we just love the High Peak and living in the National Peak District park boundary is now a dream come true. We moved to New Mills in 2005 Whaley Bridge 2014 and mostly recently have found a permanent home in Chinley our new house is within the boundary of the Peak District.

69297283_2802152359819461_4454423269738545152_n

Branded uniforms, I see lots of new businesses on social media posts , creating emphasis on this that they have amazing shiny new branded uniforms, I am with dogs most days I don’t see clients other humans most days,  so too were a branded uniform is not going to benefit anyone especially me, its not what I am about, my appearance goes out the window when I am knee deep in mud covered in dog hair, so to walk around in branded and neat uniform makes me want to burst out laughing. I wear whats comfortable when I am out with the dogs.

Also with being non uniform comes discretion when I am walking  smaller groups I don’t want all of  in sundry,  knowing I am a dog walker, I am wanting to blend in when I can so wearing and uniform wont allow me to do that, plus visiting clients homes when your at work, on holiday for cat visits; wearing a uniform letting myself in and out your house at set times rocking up in a branded  van its all a red flag for me; if anyone is watching your home you have had it…

69409855_2802155429819154_3233994186432708608_n

So I am a one man show, with seven years experience running little happy hounds, prior to that I looked after friends cats and through dog ownership I have had a lot more experience than the seven years.

At Little Happy Hounds we have done and will do walk dogs of all breeds and sizes,   however we specialise in the care and dog walking of smaller breeds, my own dog is Shih Tzu cross, I have walked Shih thus  cavapoos, Chihuahuas Westies and all sorts of smaller doggies since we began life the clue being in the name of the business.

My puppy service is  not just about keeping a puppy company while your at work, I will advice all new dog owners, help with bite inhibition, recommend vets, groomers, aides, trainers, help with  recall, socialising and toilet breaking  I have looked after  a lot of puppies and hopefully helped a lot of my clients out along the way in in fact lots of our little happy hound crew were puppies first. Thats very special for me as I get very attached probably too attached and form a very close bond with my puppy visits come dog walking clients.

67682937_2764705650230799_8877921881592692736_n

Dog nature walks, so when I can I avoid parks low level flat walks and fields, I take my dogs on adventures, sometimes longer than hour, I walk in small groups , I allow lots of time off leads, work on recall and obedience, and in general make sure my dogs have fun, exercise, play time, my walks are varied Eccles Pike and Goyt Valley being two of my favourites and the dogs too.  A phrase I have blogged about since 2012 about my LHH walks is ‘ off the beaten track’ and it really is I try very hard to avoid people cattle sheep and walk the dogs quiet places however sometimes we do have to go busier places so my dogs need to have good recall.

68653566_2800388699995827_8684427162456948736_n

Cat sitting. So when I am not out in the peaks hiking with the LHH woofs I am cat sitting. So this is visiting peoples homes when they are on holiday, its primarly cats but we do get a lot fo smaller pets, recently I looked after a heard of alpacas and chickens, this service is very personalised, so I have indoor cats outdoor cats cats that hug me cats who hide from me, elderly cats who need medication, so I offer a very caring, very experienced cat feeding service, I try and cater for everyones pets specific needs.

Trusted key holder, years of experience, offering a very personalised caring pet care services at all time, we cover Chinley, Furness Vale, Whaley Bridge, Buxworth and Chapel-en-le-Frith High Peak.

all the photos in this blog are from last few weeks, if you want to follow our dog and kitty cat adventures to the max find us on Facebook, Little Happy Hounds and Little Happy Cats or visit the main website http://www.littlehappyhounds.co.uk

Pepper Kitty.

So this week we are looking after Pepper kitty from today, i was gutted she was not in, i can usually call her from the garden and she appears, but nope not today… hopefully i will see her tomorrow,

Pepper is a the sweetest girl ever. I started looking after her when she was quite a young a kitten even back in 2015. I have tried playing with her with a piece of string but she just wants strokes and sometimes i even pick her up for a hug and she seems too like that, another part of her personality is she is a hungry girl. The pics above are from the last time i looked after her,  a few months back, as you can see she is a major kitty babe. Little Happy Cats, cat care, cat sitting, pet sitting, pet care services. We also offer dog walking, puppy visits, and doggy daycare. As dog walker, we walk all dogs, of all breeds, sizes and ages, we do however specialise in the smaller doggies, over the years I have walked shih tzu, cavapoo, cockapoo chihuahua, yorkie, jack rustle,

Jabba’s last week.

Sadly for us, happy for him, Jabba, our cavalier dog walking client, is leaving us. This was his last week, this coming Monday is his last ever walk with LHH.

He joined us back in October 2014, as a four month old puppy, I initially had the enquiry  back in August for Puppy visits twice a day, but I obviously could not fit in a puppy visit twice a day, being a one man show.

So am i not sure who cared for him, when his owners were not around. I do know he was really reserved, even a bit initiated by the other dogs when he came on board. That soon changed and we have had brilliant walks ever since. The one thing i have had to watch Jabba for, and i believe this to be a cavalier trait, is he is very people orientated and will throw himself at anyone and everyone, regardless if they have a dog or not, sometimes my friends come walking with me, and thing i have noticed everyone loves Jabba, he is a loveable little dog, lots of character, i am going to miss his very expressive face, i can tell when he is sulking, or unsure or in a very happy mood, its the way his eyes look, hard to explain.  I am feeling sad writing this, but happy for him, i try and be business headed about these matters, however when your looking after a four month old puppy for two years, one gets very attached.

We wish him well with his new life in New Zealand. Picture below was taken last Thursday, Jabba and his mates Chico, Oscar, Betty, Mario and my dog Scrappy is on the far left leg on his back. Beautiful backdrop of Kinder Scout in the distance with some snow on it.

Birthdays

I like to make a fuss of my dog clients on their birthdays for my older dogs its a birthday mention on my facebook business page and when i see them next i will aim to keep them out a bit longer, giving them a extended walk for their birthdays!

With my puppy visits clients, I always get them a card and present for their first birthday! in most cases I have been there with them several days a week sometimes longer from about 9 and 10 weeks old so we always have a close a bond. So part of my mission to always go that extra mile and provide a extra personalised service this is something I like do !!
