LHH June onwards

so corona virus has rendered work quiet for me, I did a extra long walk today for cockapoo sisters Bobbie and Bridie, Norfolk terrier Ozzie and cocker spaniel Monty, it was Montys first day back since lockdown so he was last walked in March ! I mean it could be a lot worse, work is ticking along albeit quietly, tomorrow is the busiest day so for now its feet up and writing posts on my blog especially as its raining !

So I initially took four weeks off and reopened putting in strict social distancing measures with my clients, cleaning the van down regularly changing towels and harnesses as much as possible, it doesn’t look like things are going to get better any time soon, apparently death rates of corona are falling, looks like social distancing is here to stay and schools are now staying shut till September so I cant really hang about waiting for normality to come back as its way off, so with little happy hounds being such a small business I will continue to carry on, its business as usual with all our new things in place, so we are in the position to take on new clients, you could find me via our main website or on facebook business page, best way to get old of. me is via email or call 07732265149.

All the photos on this post are from walks done at the end of May early June, we had a week of really hot weather so I was doing water walks for the dogs in the woods lots of shade, with corona all my cat sitting bookings are cancelled, we will have to see what the future brings regarding that, I am still providing dog walks, I did have a cockapoo puppy I was visiting, when he eventually comes back he will be a fully fledged dog !!

Little Happy hounds, run by just me Aaron, I began the business when we lived in New Mills, we moved to Whaley Bridge, spent half a decade there and then last summer 2019 we opted for a new start quieter life in the near by village of Chinley, its all my dreams come true firstly living in a village not a town and our new house is a very old house and it. happens to in the Peak District National Park Boundary !I still very much cover Whaley Bridge and have lots of clients there we do lots of lovely walks near by!

I am very lucky and fortunate enough to have lots of lovely long term clients, in Chinley, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Furness Vale, Buxworth, and Whaley Bridge, High Peak. I am DBS checked, a trusted key holder, fully insured, I drive a van with no company details at all offering a more discrete service for when your pet is home alone !

Good lord the weather this weekend, very very wet, has not stopped raining yesterday was more heavy showers today is just constant rain, so very good time to write a post in our Little Happy Hounds blog.

I am thinking services, so we offer three main pet care services, dog walking puppy visits and cat feeding.  For this post we look at our dog walking services.

As a dog walker I walk in smalll groups off leads, If a client needs me to have their dog longer than just one walk, I do two walks with travel time it takes up most of the day thats our little happy hounds answer to doggy daycare, eventually I am planning to get a license too do doggy care but it will be very selective just for my clients and it will have to work around my dog, this being his house and his rules, he is old now so its not always fair to have a young dog bouncing at him.

So at the moment we do dog nature walks, proper walks, the one hour begins once we are at the walk and out of the car I don’t count travel time, and on quiet days if it is the last walk we often do longer and I don’t charge any extra for that ! I think a lot of these doggy daycare places, especially the ones inside of industrial units, don’t really give dogs what they need, the great outdoors, time spent in nature, all the smells of the countryside.

I prefer the dogs off leads, I have seen dog walkers with dogs on and off on the same walk and its not for me, all our clients need too have adequate recall with my younger clients this is something I actively work on. I don’t offer solo one too one walks as such if people want a quieter walk lower numbers my walk number 3 is always a good option, the lunch time walk gets busy on certain days as does my morning walk, my insurance will be let me take 8 dogs, which too me is shocking my maximum is six and thats only if I can go somewhere quiet and depend on which dogs are on that walk I prefer groups of five and fours.

I prefer going interesting areas avoiding low level walks when I can, like too take the dogs hiking, the Goyt valley,  Eccles Pike, Crackern Edge are places I often go, I have also done walks around Hayfield, and Lantern Pike.

So I have been dog walking professionally now for over 7 years, in that time I think I’ve walked every age, shape, breed of dog going, I have walked black labs, Great Danes crossed with a black lab, a husky dog,  smaller breeds, like chihuahuas, shih tzus, a lot of cockapoos and a lot of cockerspaniels, I have also looked after and walked older dogs, one of my first dog walking clients, in Chapel-en-le-Frith was a older cocker spaniel called Barney,  I then looked after a really old red setter called Ruby and of course their was the lovely Bones, he was some kind of cross a rescue dog he defiantly had German shepherd in him, currently I walk a rescue dog called ruby who is our oldest client at little happy hounds.  Through dog ownership I have expierence caring for dogs even longer than the seven years.

2019 a busy year for LHH

so in this post on my doggy blog we will talk about the last few months a new year for Little Happy Hounds and the services we offer, currently in Whaley Bridge.

so as a small business the last 2.5 months have been very kind and a brilliant success, I am being very careful about who comes on board, as I have very few spaces especially for dog walking clients. We did take a cockapoo puppy Max last month.

One of the changes for 2019 was that we centralised things a bit to meet the new extra traffic on the roads, so we stopped covering the New Mills area, and concentrating our efforts closer to home in and around Whaley Bridge.

The other change was I put my. cat prices up, as I was operating at a loss when the cats were busy because of the cost of fuel, but also working every weekend and most evenings, all my clients who have contacted me about a new cat siting booking have not minded the price rise, it was £7.00 one visit £11.00 two daily visits, its now £8.00/ £13.00, for the work I do I think that is about right. Beyond the actual details of the service I do the main thing the most important thing I think for pet sitting service I offer is the level of care I offer and the reliability I offer.

The main part of Little Happy Hounds is the dog walking service we offer. As a dog walker I have been walking dogs in the High Peak for seven years this coming August, I walk off lead, offering lots of exercise, time to sniff and roam safely, I look for quiet walks, away from the crowds, we cover the following areas, Whaley Bridge, Buxworth, Chinley, Chapel-en-le-Frith High Peak, services include puppy care, cat sitting and dog walking, trusted key holder, years of experience, fully insured, local pet care business.

Jurassic Holiday

So this last year we did Christmas 2018 a bit differently, we are usually at home and we usually go away for New Year. However this year we went down south, to spend Christmas with some of my immediate family in Portsmouth. So this post in  my blog is about traveling and holidays in England.

This included my mother, step father, sister, two brothers,  their partners, their partners, my mums very old dog Barney and my brothers doggy Ralph. Anyway it was great Christmas catching up even though we all came down with the dreaded stomach bug doing the rounds.

West Dorset and New Year.

After Christmas, we went off to West Dorset to see in the New Year at the Jurassic coast., hired a lovely, rather over priced dog friendly cottage, in the village of Whitchurch Canonicorum, the nearest towns were Bridport and Lyme Regis. What a beautiful area we were staying in, we only had four days so didn’t do half as much as we could of, everything I usually want to do was their, walking, inland hilly walks, beach cliff walks, shopping, countryside, beautiful towns. The highlights being seeing the amazing cliff faces at West Bay, and a walk we did from Burton Bradstock to West Bay, visiting Lyme Regis on New Years Day, found several antique/ junk shops purchased a few trinkets for home, and doing an amazing walk on the Cobb as the sun was setting, I have to say even though we visited when it was rammed with people, Lyme Regis is a really beautiful town.

Another walk we did was to incorporate two hills on one walk, we actually did three hills in total that day as we also did the Golden Cap from sea town, the two hills we did on walk was first Pilsdon Penn and Lewesdon Hill, the latter was tree cladded so not much of a view, wonderful walk back from it to the car threw farm land following foot paths. Pilsdon Penn and lovely views looking over the open countryside.

Pilsdon Penn & Leweson Hill

Of course our little holiday was a dog friendly holiday, we picked the cottage as it had a huge garden which sort of double upped as a meadow, the dog was in heaven sniffing around out there. Everywhere we went we found dog friendly walks, dog friendly shops and cafes. It being late December into January there was no restrictions about dogs on beaches, so lots of opportunity for dogs to walk run jump if need be. So I highly recommend west Dorset. Beyond seeing the family and visiting several beautiful counties, what was really nice was the milder climate we get down south, we were away 11 days in total and the temperature stayed in double figures the entire time we were away plus it didn’t rain.

Chesil Beach

Back to work I go.

Once we got back home I was still off work for four days which was lovely to rest up as we had done so much walking in Dorset. On Saturday had a small gathering at home for some family members and close friends we had not managed to see around Christmas, then I was back in the helm of all things doggy and Little Happy Hounds on Monday. We have had a week of mental weather, rain, fog, mist, cold, mild. I was glad to be back with my dog walking clients, it was only my second week walking our new boy Charlie, a rescued Labrador cross, and he’s really good on walks bless him, he has settled in with Little Happy Hounds, it was nice to be back in the peak district, with the dogs.

Little Happy Hounds and Little Happy cats established back in 2012. Offering , personalised, experienced pet care services High Peak. Cat sitting, dog walker, pet sitting, dog walking services. New Mills, Whaley Bridge, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Furness Vale, Hayfield, Chinley.

Services April 2017

So we offer a number of services, puppy visits, dog walking and pet sitting. The ones that keep Little Happy Hounds busy are dog walking and cat sitting services. With puppy visits, its often a 1-2-1 visit needed initially, so being a one man band at the moment, it would have to be two visits daily, a shorter one in the morning and longer one after 2, as i am dog walking 10:30 till 2 most days.  A lot of the puppies i use to care for have grown up and become my dog walking clients. Other services i offer for my current clients are, longer or shorter walks, a double walk of need be. Daycare if i am available, toilet visits if one of my dogs is sick or injured and can’t walk and weekend dog walking, if i am available.

Cat Sitting, I am quite lucky to have so many returning cat sitting clients, and i always have room for new clients. I offer a very personalised, very caring service, which i guarantee as i do all the work myself. i meet all new clients before hand to discuss what your cat needs, as each cat i meet is a bit different to the last. I first started looking after friends cats when i was 18, I am now 37 and I have some cats on my books that have been with Little Happy Hounds since the beginning back in 2012.

With pet sitting cat feeding services, you name it and i have done it, litter trays maintained, indoors and outdoor cats, their is a element of cleaning so i will clean up after the cats, hoover sweep , all sorts, I have also looked after quite a few elderly cats, and given them medication, i am insured to do so. I am also a trusted key holder, CRB checked, have been running Little Happy Hounds successfully since August 2012. We have regular cat clients, in Birch Vale, Chinley, Hayfield, Whaley Bridge, Buxworth, Chapel-en-le-Frith, New Mills, and Furness Vale High Peak.

Dog walking, I have some great dog clients. I offer a full hour dog walk, which excludes travel time, i am with each client sometimes for two hours with the travel included. On quiet days, i often do longer walks, its one of the many things i don’t get paid for, not in cash anyway, i get paid seeing how much fun and enjoyment my dogs get. I was quiet last week for easter so i did two 1.5 hour walks on several days. I use to offer solo dog walks, or half an hour dog walks and i use to walk elderly dogs 1-2-1. I just found everyone wanted the lunch time spot, so in the end with out wanting to take on employees and turning Little Happy Hounds into a monster of a business, i cut back focusing on one hour group walks, so depending on what time of day people are looking for I am aways open to offers. I think for new dog walking clients i have available in Whaley Bridge, for the last walk which is about 2, 2:30, on Tuesday and Thursday i think i have a lunch time spot.

On top of running a business, i am also the proud parent of my dog Scrappy, my partner works very long hours, so i am pretty much responsible for my own dogs wellbeing he use to come on most walks on better weather days, now he has a bit of arthritis in his foot, so has cut back on his exercise, so i am trying everyday to get the balance right, juggling his care with work. I only learnt this last winter that he is not bothered about the first dog walk, he will stay in bed fast asleep all i come back for him for walk 2.

I offer dog nature walks, dogs off leads when its safe to do so, we avoid places with cattle,  my great passion in life is walking and countryside, so if you know Derbyshire High Peak, we are spoilt with beautiful dog friendly places to go walking and from my house you can walk into the Peak District National Park and the Goyt Valley. i feel my experience in the last five years as a dog walker is quite varied so i have so much experience, walking six dogs at one time, or walking small dogs, larger breed dogs, young dogs and older dogs. I do not drive a branded company car, i don’t use a van or cages, we are one happy family in the car, some of my dogs go in the boot, some on the back seat, i have seat belt clips, dog guard, i vet all clients regarding travel, as i do not enjoy driving the best of times, without a dog stressing or barking on top of that, plus it upsets my other woofly passengers, we have dog clients in Whaley Bridge, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Chinley, Hayfield, New Mills,

so i am off dog walking duties this weekend for easter,  next year i am taking a entire week off, as i have had a really quiet last week leading to Good Friday quite a few of my clients were at home, so with advance notice for next year it will be a good time to take an entire week off, baring in mind i am kind of working this bank holiday weekend with cat visits.  We are looking after all week, till this coming Tuesday, she is twice a day morning and later afternoon, then today Saturday, Easter Sunday and Bank holiday Monday i am looking after a four cat household, think its my third time looking after Rosie, Dusty, Marmaduke, and Scrappy, the first time i looked after them it was just Rosie and Dusty, the boys Marmaduke and Scrappy were sent to cattery, however they came back stressed, so i got to care for all four of them !!

As I said we have been quiet for dog walking, as i have so many off for Easter, not sure if we are taking on new dogs, there are that many new dog walkers around that enquiries have slowed down, the work i am being offered i don’t want, one was can i walk a dog in the evening only, and the other was a Saturday only dog and the other was a Marple based dog. I am not being choosy or picky, when i say, i do not want to commit to every Saturday, i like a day off now and then, i do work weekends for my cats and if my current dog walking clients need me. Dog walking in the evening is something i always shy away from come the long winter i don’t want to be walking in the dark, and as for Marple for the 100 time, we are in Whaley Bridge Derbyshire, as a one man band i can’t go any further than New Mills. sorry.  Anyway as we approach five years in the business of pet care i am very happy with how well Little Happy Hounds and cats are doing, I am excited to see were we will go in the next five years.
