August happy hounds new beginnings.

Not blogged for ages ! Little Happy Hound is doing very well, after the covid-19 pandemic and I am glad to report my small. business is almost out the woods now, its been an interesting last few months, new dog walking clients, new cat clients, returning cat clients, long term dogs leaving, new reviews and all in all things are going extremeley well.

So I think our last new dog I blogged about was Zelda the bassetoodle, since then we now have Toby the Bichon-Frise and now we have new golden doodle Maude, I also have a new dog lined up to join us in September and most recently I got a dog walking enquiry today I am going to meet them  tomorrow ‘Thursday’  and the dog is starting her walks on Friday! So since March we have had seven new dogs join us at LHH or will do very soon.

new client Toby Bichon

So I finally heard from some clients that I had not heard from since before the lockdown six months ago, three of our regulars from two households have left the LHH building for. various reasons due to the covid-19 pandemic, we wish them well.

We also got a new cat sitting client Horace, I looked after him last week, he lives just around the corner from me in Chinley, he is a rescue cat from the RSPCA not been with his current family very long, has a lot of health issues, but it was fine looking after him, he needs supplements and medicines added to his diet, I looked after him twice a day for a week, then we also got a returning clients Poppy and Scamp booked in for the end of August and a very last minute cat sitting gig is starting this Saturday another new cat sitting client of mine again I Chinley I looked after their beautiful cats Fridgey and Lupo for the first time in February this year and now again from Saturday !!

new reviews

I have had some lovely new reviews on Facebook page and on our listing the freebuisness index, big thanks again to all the clients who are supporting me as a small business.

And lastly  we have been having some amazing dogs walks as business is quiet I’ve been doing slightly longer walks on some days, as I have less dogs in my walking groups we have been able to do different walks, as the constraints of a bigger group isn’t there, like doing walks that require on and off leads, because of roads, cattle etc I wont usually do these walks with big groups but with smaller groups much easier, cant see me wanting to take more than five out maximum again, definitely no more groups of six thats for sure.

So nearly all our new dogs have come from Whaley Bridge with one being from Bridgemont, just after Whaley, I also cover Chinley where I am now based, I also have dog walking and cat siting clients in Chapel-en-le-Frith and Buxworth which are all areas I cover in and around Chinley High Peak, as of 2018 we stopped covering New Mills, Hayfield and Birch Vale and centralised the business,

Little Happy Hounds has now been in operation for 8 years in this area, with all our new clients I feel like we are about to start a new chapter and I am definitely looking forward to the next 8 years, as a dog walker I walk in small well organised groups, off leads, when its safe to do so, we also offer a very experienced, very caring puppy visits services, and our personalised cat feeding service, little happy cats. As a small local business, I just cover the local area around Chinley, Whaley and Chapel, I have no employees at all, offering a more caring, more personal touch to the services I offer for all my lovely clients, I am fully insured, with pet plan sanctuary, I am DBS checked, I have a clean driving license, I drive a unbranded van to offer for more discretion for when I collect your pet or feed your cat for when your not home.

So a lot has happened in the world since the last blog postwe are currently half way through our fifth week of Lockdown because of the Corona Virus outbreak. Work closed down for four entire weeks, I lost lots of cat sitting bookings, didn’t earn any money at all, then last week I decided I would offer clients walks, demand was very low but I have been doing walks for a very small number of dogs, it was just twice a week last week, three walks this current week.

So during my four weeks away from Little Happy Hounds I enjoyed the rest amongst all the worry, I had a significant birthday which of course was ruined because of the lockdown, I would of soldiered with celebrations at home but my other half was unwell at the same time, so all in all a rubbish birthday!

After four weeks off I was bored, restless, very very anxious about the return to work, so I had just do it clients were struggling for various reasons, financially at the end of the day I have flimsy promise from  the government that they might invite me to apply for a cash grant in May for the payment in June, baring in my last pay cheque from work was end of March and I was down hundreds of pounds because of cancellations, so in the end I had no choice but to go back to work, even when I am earning such a low amount of money least I can afford to buy food now. I am not entitled business grants as I am not LTD, I could not apply for the Derbyshire council grant payment of £500.00 as I don’t have a business bank account I just have my personal current account, so you put your heart and soul into a business I created from scratch, I  work hard, pay my taxes on time for almost 8 years and when the shit hits the fan, i.e corona virus their is no financial help for me at all, lucky for me my partner is still getting a wage as we are married I cant apply for universal credit and we own our house outright, so I do take a moment to remember that during this very difficult time for so many we are actually very fortunate.

So I was little bit of a baby last week and got my other half to accompany me on my walks, the sun was shinning lockdown or no lockdown I was convinced we would run into people, I had had four weeks off the dogs , Ralph George and Max were crazily excited.  This week we went to Combs Reservoir on Monday which was rammed, was hard to avoid people, Tuesday I was brave and went to walk Ralph my client on my own, literally had one dog that day but I helped my clients out walked my own dog with Ralph so that was cool with me,

Peanut and Toby last week.

Then tomorrow got four with my own dog and I am going to be brave and do that on my own !! Go somewhere quiet I am hoping for cooler weather as it makes it easy when you dont have to do low level walks near water which are always full of people, social distancing is hard enough without doing it with four dogs and trying to dodge all the dogs out and about on leads who dislike other dogs its not easy.

I have cancelled all cat sitting bookings for 2020, as we have no idea how long we are in lockdown for, my holidays plans changed so I am now off a week in September , hopefully, I wont be taking new cats this year to much has happened. I am enjoying a slower pace now just a few walks a week, we have this new house of ours we have not even lived here a year yet and we this huge massive garden, flanked by our neighbours field, so we have been busy in the garden, we have views of Chinley churn behind us, its the loveliest house we have ever lived in and we finally have the loveliest neighbours I have ever had, so not to be working everyday does have its blessings, the photos are from the few walks I have done, find us on Facebook to follow our Little Happy Hounds adventures, in realtime, as a dog walker I walk in small groups, LHH is a established business, offering dog walking cat sitting and puppy visits since the summer of 2012, we have clients in Chinley, Buxworth, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Whaley Bridge, High Peak, Derbyshire  which are all areas I cover for all our pet care services,  fully insured, trusted key holder, reliable, years and years of experience,

you can contact me via email or via the main website

the end of a great May 2018

So its been a busy last month, with new cats, long cat sitting durations, and lots of dogs and lots of dog walking! I now have three weeks left of Little Happy Hounds, before we close for 10 days, firstly to get married and then we are off on holiday !

So May was busy for the cats, cat gigs new cats and we had several new cat sitting enquires, mostly in the New Mills area, I was looking after Polly in Whaley Bridge, Baz in Buxworth, and Ole and Tintin over in Chapel-en-le-Frith, so as you can see we have clients everywhere in High Peak.

We have had some lovely dog walks throughout May and have had so many warm and sunny days brilliant with weather for a dog walker. So. have been doing a lot of wooded and shaded walks near rivers and streams, to the keep the dogs cool. On very hot days we have started earlier, and when I needed we have shortened the lunch time walk by 10 minutes as I felt the dogs were over heating, I. have fan in the my car, a soft top and I keep frozen water in their slowly defrosting so the dogs have cool water. We have enjoyed dog walking in Goyt Valley in and around Fernilee Reservoir, we did some morning walks over the border in Kettleshulme Cheshire as its wooded lovely part of the river. With our New Mills, Birch Vale and Hayfield dogs we have done wooded walks in Hayfield, and been up Lantern Pike many times, as I have a client that lives up nearer there. Little Happy Hounds pet care services based in Whaley Bridge, we go on dog friendly dog nature walks, in and around the Peak District.

the weekend edition 1

So I think every weekend ,with this being a blog all about Little Happy Hounds, I will recap the prior week, the dog friendly walks we have been on and any news about Little Happy Hounds ! So its not been the usual week, as a lot of my dog walking clients were off for half term, so I have managed to get away with one walk most days, however the pets sitting side of the business Little Happy Cats has been busy, today alone Saturday I have done five cat sitting visits for 12 cats. As a small business with just little old me running the show thats busy.

The stand out walk this week was Monday as I had some of my family with me for the weekend, including my dog obsessed six year old nephew George, he had already been on a few of my walks in the summer when he visited with my mam and sister, so he had his firm favourites, this time around he mention Amy, the German shepherd I walk he liked her and he also mentioned Oscar and Oscar was on this walk, sadly he had forgotten about Fritz, had show him photographic evidence of him with Fritz, another one of his favourites,, he was also convinced Fritz was called Bradly this time around.  Anyway so we collected the dogs it was three clients and my dog and we went too the logging road Fernilee, Goyt Valley. Four dogs, two young kids, one teenager and my brother partner. It was great walk dogs ran around a lot, did not. get many good pics as I was focusing on toddlers and dogs and keeping them safe. But the pic below is great, my brother partner took it, so thats my step niece Abbie, my young toddler nephew Noah my dog mad nephew George, myself and the dogs, Max, Scrappy, Oscar and Fritz peeping out from behind the log. I have always recommend Fernilee as a dog friendly walk, just be cautious on the logging road as last few times I have been up their I have seen very reactive dogs on leads.

Other news is I have rediscovered youtube having ignored it for work for ages, so I have started loading videos, too show what work we do with the pet sitting and the dog walks we go on, as a dog walker I am forever trying too offer the most transparent service I can. Clip below is a extra long walk I did in Hayfield on Friday!

Little Happy Hounds, Whaley Bridge, New Mills, Chinley, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Furness Vale, Birch Vale, High Peak Derbyshire the Peak District.

Saturday doggy walk Fritz & Scraps

One of favourite walks in the Peak District is one I don’t do very often, up to Brown Knowl from Wash Derbyshire, we never got that far yesterday as the weather was terrible we did however do a lovely two hour walk, kind of in-between South Head and Brown Knoll, but we never climbed as far we managed to loop starting before Wash, following signs for Upper  Fold, which is a very cute small hamlet with a few cottages, you then climb up a lane that becomes a rough track for a about a mile up hill, and eventually join a bridal way that goes from South Head, we turned right and headed towards Shire Oak, another small hamlet, high up on a hill, there is a foot path threw it and it eventually took us all the way back down to were the walk had started. Some of the fields we walked threw there were sheep so dogs were back on the leads, however we still managed quite a bit off lead walking, so it was great.

I was walking my client Fritz, something I am always happy to do at the weekend if I am free and my dog scrappy, dogs had a great time despite the rain, both were very tired after the walk myself included.

Whaley Bridge, New Mills, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Buxworth, Furness Vale, Hayfield Chinley.

A new month its been feeling very autumnal this weekend walking my own dog, very muddy underfoot, showers and sunshine and massive conkers falling off the trees. This weekend we have walked over too Furness Vale twice from home in Whaley Bridge, tying in Rosies cat visit with exercising ourselves and the dog, yesterday we went via Kisshing Field, Kettleshulme, Start Lane, into Higher Disley up Buxton Old Road finding a path on the right that dropped down into Furness back home along Ringstone fields and Toddbrook. Today I cheated drove to Hockerly lane and walked too Furness Vale threw the Ringstone field. All the pictures below is from yesterdays mega walk.

Got a hectic week from tomorrow starting with scrappy, my doggy having his teeth cleaned the vets, they are not in bad way but if I wanted them cleaned its now and or never as he’s almost 9 years old. So I am worried he has to go under general anesthetic, lucky for me I have a quiet day work wise, Scrappy on first walk with cockapoo sisters Bobbie and Bridie drop them off take Scrappy do the vets then I will leave him and do my second walk hopefully get back for him in time!
