August happy hounds new beginnings.

Not blogged for ages ! Little Happy Hound is doing very well, after the covid-19 pandemic and I am glad to report my small. business is almost out the woods now, its been an interesting last few months, new dog walking clients, new cat clients, returning cat clients, long term dogs leaving, new reviews and all in all things are going extremeley well.

So I think our last new dog I blogged about was Zelda the bassetoodle, since then we now have Toby the Bichon-Frise and now we have new golden doodle Maude, I also have a new dog lined up to join us in September and most recently I got a dog walking enquiry today I am going to meet them  tomorrow ‘Thursday’  and the dog is starting her walks on Friday! So since March we have had seven new dogs join us at LHH or will do very soon.

new client Toby Bichon

So I finally heard from some clients that I had not heard from since before the lockdown six months ago, three of our regulars from two households have left the LHH building for. various reasons due to the covid-19 pandemic, we wish them well.

We also got a new cat sitting client Horace, I looked after him last week, he lives just around the corner from me in Chinley, he is a rescue cat from the RSPCA not been with his current family very long, has a lot of health issues, but it was fine looking after him, he needs supplements and medicines added to his diet, I looked after him twice a day for a week, then we also got a returning clients Poppy and Scamp booked in for the end of August and a very last minute cat sitting gig is starting this Saturday another new cat sitting client of mine again I Chinley I looked after their beautiful cats Fridgey and Lupo for the first time in February this year and now again from Saturday !!

new reviews

I have had some lovely new reviews on Facebook page and on our listing the freebuisness index, big thanks again to all the clients who are supporting me as a small business.

And lastly  we have been having some amazing dogs walks as business is quiet I’ve been doing slightly longer walks on some days, as I have less dogs in my walking groups we have been able to do different walks, as the constraints of a bigger group isn’t there, like doing walks that require on and off leads, because of roads, cattle etc I wont usually do these walks with big groups but with smaller groups much easier, cant see me wanting to take more than five out maximum again, definitely no more groups of six thats for sure.

So nearly all our new dogs have come from Whaley Bridge with one being from Bridgemont, just after Whaley, I also cover Chinley where I am now based, I also have dog walking and cat siting clients in Chapel-en-le-Frith and Buxworth which are all areas I cover in and around Chinley High Peak, as of 2018 we stopped covering New Mills, Hayfield and Birch Vale and centralised the business,

Little Happy Hounds has now been in operation for 8 years in this area, with all our new clients I feel like we are about to start a new chapter and I am definitely looking forward to the next 8 years, as a dog walker I walk in small well organised groups, off leads, when its safe to do so, we also offer a very experienced, very caring puppy visits services, and our personalised cat feeding service, little happy cats. As a small local business, I just cover the local area around Chinley, Whaley and Chapel, I have no employees at all, offering a more caring, more personal touch to the services I offer for all my lovely clients, I am fully insured, with pet plan sanctuary, I am DBS checked, I have a clean driving license, I drive a unbranded van to offer for more discretion for when I collect your pet or feed your cat for when your not home.

so I am now in my fourth week back walking the dogs after corona virus closed LHH down for four solid weeks,

So finally the guidelines have changed via the CFSG! I was partly  ignoring the government guide lines as to be honest they made no sense to me at all, things like dogs not being walked with other dogs and keeping them on leads not using my van etc , as I had made a concrete decision not to walk dogs from any households displaying corona virus symptoms, so if everyone is well the chances of corona passing from dog to dog via their fur is next to nil, I recognised this earlier on only. now as the guide lines caught up, a few other dog walkers judged me walking in small groups criticised even tried to make out insurance was not covering me well they were all wrong and now it turns out I was right, so I hope they all enjoyed their extra time off doing nothing or enjoyed their 1-2-1- dog lead walks on the pavement,

so just to reiterate Little Happy Hounds is back, but at the moment I only want to work part time, because of COV-19 Pandemic, so I am doing group walks only, small in number and only for households that are not self isolating because of corona symptoms,

As ever I am cleaning the van, leads, towels and my hands frequently, I have advised clients to wipe down their dogs after their walks, as much as possible I am disinfecting as I go along!! And applying social distancing when I am collecting dogs dropping dogs its working really well so I am over the moon really.

DOG WALKERS

Dog walkers can continue to operate and priority should be given to key workers, and shielded and vulnerable people who are unable to make alternative safe arrangements for their dog. Dogs from coronavirus infected or self-isolating households may be walked but if doing so they must be walked after dogs from all other households.

The handover protocol set out by CFSG should be followed with the owner retaining all equipment such as leads. Handover should take place in a room or space large enough for the client and staff to maintain their social distance. Dogs from different households may be walked together as long as dogs from infected or self-isolating households are not mixed with others from non-infected households. Social distancing should be maintained for both the walker and the dogs by keeping the dogs on a lead at all times. Any equipment, including the vehicle if used to transport the dog, must be cleaned and disinfected between dogs.

Little Happy Hounds, pet care services Chinley.

Fully insured, years of experience, we have operated in Chinley, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Buxworth and Whaley Bridge High Peak Derbyshire, for almost 8 years this August ! As a dog walker I avoid the same low level boring field walks that a lot of daycare places do, I take my clients on proper dog walks in the Peak District allowing plenty time off lead, to exercise and be mentally stimulated with interesting smells and interaction with my other dogs.  I don’t like going to much about my walks as feel  my social media speaks for itself and my dogs returning home tired and happy also speaks volumes !  !

half term high peak.

So this post in my dog blog is about half term in the High peak and challenging weather we have had this week as a dog walker, its pretty much rained, rained heavily lots of flooding all over the uk, we have had two storms, today was just the icing on the cake, very heavy rain indeed.  Its not been easy I cant stand driving around watching the roads flood as its only in recent years its happened I have lived around here since 2005.

:- new clients Lupo and Fridgey.

so I have had a few dogs off this week with the holidays but let busier as I have cat sitting several lots of cat clients.  I have a new cats sitting client in Chinley, last year we had two new clients in Buxworth, I very much want more pet sitting clients nearer to home, as its weekend and evening work and I don’t particularly want to head into new mills twice a day at the weekend,

It was all very last minute booing with newbies so I had not met them when I collected key, until today, I was pleasantly surprised at them both female, Lupo and Fridgey, they are both so stunning, Lupo very tactile. They are having a once a day cat visit, are outdoor cats, just feeding, litter tray maintained. Mother cat sitting clients I am caring for at the moment are Esmee and Luna, over in New Mills, the last visit is this Saturday I have been popping in once a day now for almost two weeks !! Tomorrow is a dead day so my weekend starts this eve, got just one walk tomorrow two cat visits, I am hoping for a dry day we will see.

Luna and Esmee clients since 2016.

Just a reminder, I am newly based in Chinley, but have been covering this village for pet care services since August 2012, some of my first clients were in Chinley and Chapel. Initially we lived in New Mills, then we spent five years in Whaley Bridge, then June 2019 we have moved for the long term to Chinley, Little Happy Hounds is a local caring pet care business, I am fully insured, DRB/police checked, I am a trusted key holder, reliable and very experienced in pet sitting, dog walking and puppy care, if you here any different ‘consider the source’ ….

FAB FAB FEBRUARY.

Firstly February has been the cat sitting month, I have taken a new booking for June, but also I was looking after Polly, then Baz Aggie Lennie, then currently Esmee and Luna for two weeks we half way there with that, then Thursday and Friday I popped in on Queenie to do a short two day duration for her, and last night a new cat visit duration started for Ole and Tin tin till Sunday more.  So what I am wanting to do with the cats is cut back especially on twice a day visits and the ones that are far from home, when it comes to the evening and the weekend I don’t actually want to drive far to cat feed, money is okay but its not amazing especially when you count unsociable hours and the cost of diesal, so I am going to be much more careful about what I do. Which includes no more cats in New Mills.  I have a lot of cats I see in Whaley Bridge, Buxworth, Chapel-en-le-Frith even one or two in New Mills, but what I don’t have is any in Chinley so until that happens I am happy to cut back on the far away ones like New Mills, I know I am only in Chinley but to much driving makes me stressed, also the roads, percent state of being dug up, parked cars everywhere you go so lots of stop / start it can be a nightmare driving round here.

So the dogs !! so Peanut a border terrier came to me via another dog walker sending me the enquiry so I have thanked her for that and puppy Ralph has come to me via my some of my long term clients so what I am realising more more, writing blogs, social media , flyer dropping ‘ if I do that ‘ only achieves so much, the real form of advertisement now is word of mouth and reputation, so I am glad that it is working for me, as I am over the moon with Peanut firstly and also the prospect a young puppy going us.  Peanut is great she’s been on three walks, gets on with everyone is a typical high energy terrier she is only 8 months old I am very attached to her already !! She is also awesome in the van as she first to be collected its another five stops before we get to the walk it took almost an hour last week before we got to walk.

So puppy Ralph starts twice daily week after next, I went to meet him and he’s adorable, glad to report he is completely different personality to a cockapoo puppy I took on last year which did not work out, the other cockapoo who joined me last year Gracie is absolute angel, she is high energy dog and I always look forward to her twice weekly walks, so with Ralph I will have four cockapoos on my books in the history of Little Happy Hounds Ralph will be number six !! So I would say I know the breed I definitely love the breed thats for sure.  The other thing I love about Ralph is he is apricot coloured, Max, Bobbie, Bridie and Gracie are all jet black, Gracie has some amazing grey making on her face, the first Betty I looked after years ago was amazing array of colours, white , black patches of tan! So plan is to work with Ralph during puppy visits, he will be getting some puppy training of a trainer and then I am hoping he can join group walks at 4 to 5 months old, I am not rushing though when he is big enough older enough has recall etc,  very exciting times only second month of the new year and we have new dog and new puppy !

Ralph

So what I really need now is new dogs on Fridays ! When the last few New Mills dogs left in 2018, as I was centralising the business it left a gap on Friday, usually this would of filled very quickly but combination of not advertising and all the new dog walkers meant had no enquiries that day !! I enjoy being quiet on Fridays but again I still need a new dog or two that as at the moment I am not actually covering the fuel I am using to collect the few dogs I have !

So February has been kind month for Little Happy Hounds,  minus the weather bit, I have not enjoyed that at all, I am looking forward to March. Both work wise and personally March will be a great month !! firstly Its my very significant birthday and I have one or two little things planned to mark the occasion as its a big one, but I am also entering a new era, I want to focus on my health now and try and get a bit fitter, I am also returning home for few days going up to Newcastle, to see my dad, I have not been to Newcastle since 2017 I think.  And just before easter we were planning a long weekend away for my birthday and we were thinking Robins Bay, Whitby kind of area I have never been and its suppose to a area of outstanding beauty for walking, so we have to get a wriggle on and get that organised I have already booked time off from work.

January 2020 blog

So I have not wrote a post about Little Happy Hounds in a while on this blog, I have been concentrating my efforts in writing posts on the blog that is part of my website, http://www.littlehappyhounds.co.uk so a post on here a long over due.

So far the new year has been kind too me, we are having a milder winter so works that little bit easier, its always very knackering dog walking in cold weather and in winter in general. So I have had some changes, I have new cockapoo puppy  Ralph Joining me in February for twice daily twice weekly puppy visits and eventually he will be moving on my lunch time group walk, Tuesday and Thursdays, I have new dog gizmo the Shih Tzu joing us for a walk once a week, like Ralph the new puppy he is also in Whaley Bridge, and a lady contacted me about a terrier cross in Buxworth so I am hoping she will come back too me again this all for next month, so if those three join Little Happy Hounds it will be a busy February, I wont able to take new dogs on until Ralph is a bit bigger as puppy visits play havoc with my dog walking schedule. Anyway lots of positives.

82092008_3127328420635185_1588488766752817152_n

Two lovely doggies I walk left, a German shepherd and rescue dog, I have walked them for five years, they are from the same family, the little one Ruby  who is a rescue has always been a bit skittish in the past she has run away from my walks, so for the longest time I kept her on a lead but last year I started letting her off, anyway two Fridays ago she ran away and from me for no good reason really, for me  it was the last time, beyond the stress of a client vanishing, I was working with a tummy bug so I was already unwell, anyway I found her. Once I spoke too the owner about the scenario I wanted too do some changes in how I am walking them. I offered too do lead walk only around the park for her or if they wanted too leave it was totally understandable and it would be on good terms with myself, on top of Ruby being skittish, she is also deaf and elderly, her German shepherd sister Amy is also advancing into her twilight years, anyway they left. I was a bit shocked at the enormity of it I have walked them for half a decade I am very fond of both of them; thats the thing with dog walking you get emotionally invested in other peoples pets !! I have been down this road before it hurts but I have too switch off put my business head on, and be thankful that they all left on good terms with myself. So I will miss them but onwards and upwards.

78494132_3007101285991233_1430530194707316736_n

Amy and Ruby I will miss you both x

January has been busy, I have done some cat sitting gigs, Baz and co and queenie, and a lot of my regular clients have asked for extra walks so last few weeks and next week, its been busy, one dog I see usually three days a week, asked for four until March then a few ays ago asked fro friday as well for the next two weeks so she is now albeit temporary like a full time client, lovely springer I walk called Roxy joined us last year, and she is just one of many of my dogs who have asked for extra walks.

So I am taking moment too appreciate how steady work is, new enquiries, but also in the face of so much competition now, so I am looking inwardly at Little Happy Hounds, and wanting too highlight the things I love about the business whats working and what isn’t, I don’t advertise which is a problem, but I have now started writing more blogs, my next task is a new flyer too convey the new message of 2020 and I am considering a flyer drop.  I can take on more cat sitting and smaller pet visits nearer too home, I have spaces for new dogs , Fridays possibly Wednesday and if anyone wants a later walk about 2 onwards that viable most days, everyone always wants the lunch time walk which was partly  why Amy and Ruby were such great clients they were flexible about what time I could go for the girls.

So too conclude, January 2020 has been fabulous for me a small business  as a dog walker, I am fully insured, this coming August little happy hounds will be 8 years old, I offer discretion for when your not at home, I don’t drive a branded company van, I specialise in proper dog nature walks, as a dog walker we go to the Goyt Valley and other places in the Peak District, I walk in small groups, off leads, I am a one man show as small local business I guarantee a more caring, reliable approach when it comes too my pet care services. Longer and shorter walks can be arranged in advance.  I am based in the village of Chinley, I have regular clients in Chinley, Buxworth, Whaley Bridge, Chapel-en-le-Frith, High Peak Derbyshire. Puppy care, cat feeding and dog walking services, find us on Facebook.

All in all as 2019 is grinding too a end, its been a okay year for LHH I had too say bye too a few much loved clients as I tried too centralise the business, which was horrible very emotional as I get very attached especially a full time client I have looked after since being a puppy. But onwards and upwards, I have a new van so its enjoyable driving around without water leaking on my head, I loved my old car but I did not look after it and it had lots of issues, so I was glad to see the back of it, I feel like seven years has refreshed me refreshed work new van and I am looking forward too 2020 and the next seven years of Little happy Hounds.
