Chinley Village

Little Happy Hounds

So I have took half term week off my dog walker duties, to rest up recharge my batteries, its Monday and so far I have had a great weekend and a lovely day today, just cleaning, cooking, the weather has been shockingly cold so I never went out the house Saturday and Sunday my partner walked our dog, today I managed a small local walk with Scrappy ! Today has been milder and sunnier a lot like spring !

So yes I needed a huge break from work, everything due to pandemic is making life harder. So today was great , I remembered one of the main reasons we moved to Chinley and that is the walks. my dog is getting on, so today we walked up our street, Stubbins Lane to Chinley nature reserve, we exited at the very top of Stubbins Lane which then becomes Cotes Banks lane…

So yes I needed a huge break from work, everything due to pandemic is making life harder. So today was great , I remembered one of the main reasons we moved to Chinley and that is the walks. my dog is getting on, so today we walked up our street, Stubbins Lane to Chinley nature reserve, we exited at the very top of Stubbins Lane which then becomes Cotes Banks lane and eventually your kind of above Brierly Green Buxworth lots of options but we often turn left its not sign posted foot path and its lovely green lane lovely views of Eccles Pike, this goes through a horse field and we crossed over the railway via a foot bridge and back onto the main B road, at leaden knowl and eventually we walked back to the nature reserve and down the lane home !!!

That was just his morning walk, now he is getting on we have the park at the top of the street sometimes late in the evening we use Squirrel green in the village as he wont toilet properly in our garden !!! So we love loving Chinley its two years this coming June, I have been covering Chinley for work since 2013, so I have always loved it around, my other favourite walks is South Head via alders lane, we love walking up Maystone road and exploring the paths up to crackern edge.

unbranded van for your security and discretion

at Little happy hounds I don’t drive a branded van or wear uniform this is because I am sometimes cat feeding when people are on holiday so in that instance its security and discretion wise if I am picking dogs up I dont want everyone knowing I have van full of dogs I mean its not a great time in society lots of dog thefts going on, I think discretion is the key when your a dog walker.

Its been a a difficult few weeks, weather is relentless, just snowy and icy and very cold which is better than the mud but its knackering, I could not get up several clients streets and drives this morning so a lot of on foot collections was exhausting did two one hour walks and puppy visit took me from 9 am to 3 pm !!! Its probably my age but I am a tired boy happy but tired.

So yes a new puppy has arrived at LHH a cavapoo its a unusual situation as I am doing the puppy visit and her owner is in, I am in the garden and in the summer house and the puppies owner is in the house this is so the puppy gets a bit of independence away from her owner and I get to bond with her before she is ready to go on my walks. She is lovely she is not three months old yet, I know the cavapoo mix breed so I am overly excited about her joining us.

new client poppy !

then my other new dog is also a absolute treasure, we are two weeks into new doggy poppy walks. She is a miniature poodle, she just turned a year old, I do love love my smaller breed dogs she is everything feisty, strong willed, very fast when she is playing, cuddly and just a huge personality just a lovely doggy !

So business is doing very well lately in the face of the pandemic, I have said no to some enquiries at the back end of last year and this year, I know this has upset one of those enquiries I said no too. As a small business the way I run LHH is when I get a new dog enquiry I ask some questions, and then I think is this potential clients dog a good match for my other dogs, I dont think oh a new dog more money its not how we do things.

If its not suitable enquiry for myself I recommend someone else, nothing to get upset about all very above board, I have been called picky lately and almost 9 years into running a very successful business just want to say I am very picky, in equal measures I am picky, ethical, caring, reliable and very experienced and I am also the boss. You will also find me very friendly very down to earth, I am Geordie after all living in the Peaks.

As a local business I can only cover the surrounding areas of Chinley, where I am based, so I cover Buxworth, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Chinley and Whaley Bridge only. I dont cover dove holes I leave that up to the buxton dog walkers and we stopped covering New Mills back in 2018 it was taking to long in the car with travel to cover all the areas, its about scaling back and centralising, less time driving equals longer walks for my happy hounds !

below one of todays walks and the new puppy in my life.

A new year !!! 2021

So last week was our first week, we had snow, a new dog client joined us and the UK went into our third lockdown, welcome to 2021. Remember to like this post share this post subscribe to this blog, please.

So last week first few days was a shock to the system, I was busy with the dogs and most of society was out and about, driving, and on walks, in depths of winter I am use to walking with the dogs and seeing nobody, people stopping me to comment on the dogs make small talk is exhausting, I mean I work with dogs for a reason.

Monday night we went into a third lockdown and finally Wednesday onwards it started to get a little bit more quiet. At the weekend it was all over Facebook the police and the mountain rescue people where not happy with the volume of people coming into the area to go walking. Of course some people acted very irresponsibility, Mancunians mostly coming in the Derbyshire Hayfield and going up Kinder scout, I have seen with my own eyes on Instagram with the hash tag Kinder Scout , people have been going up there in groups of five and six’s arms around each other posing for photos, it is absolutely disgusting, we are allowed to meet one person outdoors, near our house and observing a 2 meters distance from one another, the NHS is on its knees currently hence my preaching. Stay at home the local people of our towns and villages in this area don’t want you to visit its not safe, fair or considerate.

So yes last week was not feeling very safe being out and about, contagious disease, people lurking around every corner spreading the disease when they all should be in their houses, fact. I decided after last week I will keep working, as I have key workers an a elderly lady on my books who rely on me to deliver dog walks, and if I am walking that lot I might as well keep walking everyone else, anyway vaccination is being rolled out so things will eventually start looking up.

So my first week back was great mostly as we got a break from the mud and three days of ice and snow on the ground so dogs where immaculate but also they love the snow so we we had some really lovely walks, Friday new dog parsons jackrussell Lara joined us. Its been on the cards for a while but I didn’t want to do the meet and greet bit even in the garden with the pandemic, but I ran into the owners on my walk on Thursday so decided that was the meet and greet and took her out Friday as planned she is lovely typical puppy typical terrier, she is just a once a week Friday dog !!

Photos are from just some of last weeks walks a few photos of newbie Lara, please like, share and subscribe to my blog , find us on Facebook to follow our adventures on full,

as a dog walker I cover Chinley ‘where I live’ Whaley Bridge Chapel-en-le-Frith, Buxworth High Peak Derbyshire, pet sitting, puppy visits and dog walking.

a new year at LITTLE HAPPY HOUNDS Chinley

its now New Years Day 2021, what a year 2020 was, I was actually lucky enough to be busy as a small business as the world fell apart with the pandemic, Brexit, the race rows in America, and now we are about to start mass vaccination program in the UK and the end is in sight, in this blog I will look at little happy hounds as a business who we are what we do and where we are going in 2021, happy new year.

So the last two Christmas’s and New Years we have not been at home so this year was our first Christmas in our new house Chinley, just the two of us with Scrappy the dog was a very relaxing chilled quiet Christmas, just before tier 4 kicked in we went for a walk with two friends and that was the only socialising we have done this Christmas, so we are now in tier 4 which is going to make my job a lot harder, as everyone being off work and told to stay at home is code for driving back and forth to the supermarkets and picnic on eccles pike in a large group during the storm, well thats definitely what was happening on the run up to Christmas,

So last year some dogs went due to covid, but we took on Peanut the border terrier cross and Wilf cockapoo, before March lockdown, then once I returned to work we took on bassetoodle Zelda, then her aunty a golden doodle called Maude, a vizsla called Sienna then another vizsla called Lizzie, Bichon Frise toby who joined me early summer, his owner is a trending client I use to walk her shih tzu buster, so Toby joined us, fell in love with this little Bichon and he left us in September they have relocate to Hyde, and lastly we took on a whippet type cross breed lurcher doggy called Indie, who is still young fluffy its hard to describe how he looks, so very happy as business in the face of pandemic is still booming, a lot of long term clients reduced their days that they need me which is fine id rather they did that then leave all together, so very happy as I don’t really advertise its all word of mouth and of course now we have a lot of dog walking competition in this area.

So changes are I have reduce the cat sitting side of the business due to covid, I lost so many bookings and it just changed my mind about it as a service, so I am only covering cats near to home as its a lot of evening work lot of weekend work, I have kept a few long term clients dotted about but also let a lot of cat clients go that was not working for me, its not that I am being picky as I work alone, I am out walking dogs all day, we get to the evening and weekend and I don’t particularly want to drive out anyway I have spent my entire working week driving sitting in road works, so yes partly due to the road works I have cut back on m car work completely. Little Happy Cats was once booming and now its something I do occasionally and more locally.

With my doggies I walk in small groups, as its taken a bit longer than I anticipated settling a few of my new dogs into my routine, I have been turning down a lot of new enquires, now we are in the new year 2021 I might start looking to see if we can take on new dogs. at LHH I do a one hour walk that begins when we get to the location, you wont see me doing 40 minutes as I count travel or because the weather is crap and I don’t do twenty minute walks and stand in a spot throwing a ball catcher for the dogs. I make my walks fun, lots of exercise, physically and mentally, socialising, I make sure my dogs are happy contended and looked after, its an hour for them to socialise and mingle with their dog peoples think it gives my clients a break the dog a break from their humans, as everyone is working from home now these days.

So as a dog walker I have walked doggies, in this area since the summer of 2012, so have a lot of hands on experienced, I am reliable very caring, fully insured, DBS checked, I have a clean driving license no criminal convictions or cautions, paper work can be provided for my DBS, I offer dog walking, puppy visits and cat visits, Chinley, Buxworth and Chapel-en-le-Frith High Peak, Derbyshire.

The last week at LHH in 2020

What a year with the covid pandemic its now Christmas Eve morning time and I have never felt less Christmassy ever. They are threatening or rumour has it there is another lockdown coming for the new year. As a small business in the face of a pandemic we are doing very well so this post is a big thank you to clients for supporting us this year !

So my last day was last Friday since then, I have rested up, got some repair work done on my work van, ate to much drank to much , done a few walks with my dog. The last week at work was busy, we mostly had good weather I am so glad I took a proper two weeks off as a few of my dog walking friends were working right up to Christmas Eve, the roads have been so busy and walks so I was glad to get work done and dusted on Friday. I am more than convinced my clients managed without me Monday to Thursday this week Schools are closed for one thing. Photos below are just some of the walks we did last week for our beautiful doggies.

so I was spoilt with clients presents this year lots of alcohol , chocolate and other little gifts for me and my dog Scrappy, I also got a new client recommendation/review on the Facebook page so I am feeling really appreciated ive thanked everyone personally but here it is again big thanks everyone. I am hoping all our clients but also the people that follow me on social media, Facebook page and group have a lovely Christmas if they can and big thanks for following my adventures and also writing supportive comments, you know who you are !

So I am kind of looking forward 2021, I am hoping we get onto of the covid and we vaccinate the people who need it, and life will carryon but I suspect their is going to years if not decades of problems after this, peoples mental health being the main one and the country being bankrupt being the other. For me as a business its worrying I lost a few dog clients after first lockdown clients I was attached to, so if there is a third proper lockdown I am worried now who else might go !! I did say at the beginning of second lockdown to my clients I am not holding slots if you choose to cancel your walks, I would much rather you reduced your walks its less of a blow that juts leaving , but a lot of my dogs have already done that. Anyway lets Christmas and new year out the way and see where we are at , stay safe everyone

End of October

So as a very small business I am glad to report we have had our most successful month for 2020 so far and I feel like things are picking up all the time. For October we had dogs return to us and cat sitting clients and all in all its been a. very successful month, big thanks to all my clients.

Monday morning gang

We looked after new cat sitting clients, Zak, Gracie George, thats a mummy cat and two sons, we also have them booked in again from tomorrow, we looked after Lupo and Fridgey again, the third time this year also new clients of ours, and we did a one week twice a day cat sitting duration for our long term cat clients Ole and Tintin, all these cat sitting gigs where in Chapel-en-le-Frith and Chinley, which are very much areas we cover for our pet sitting services.

one of yesterdays very wet walks

So this week weather was challenging we had some mega wet walks, its rained most days this week, however apart from this week most of October has been lovely I have really enjoyed it as I love autumn, autumn colours, last weekend we did a walk from our house I wanted to go down Green Lane on foot as I spent all week driving up and down it for work and kept passing all these tall beautiful trees with yellow leaves, so autumnal, so we walked down their kicked some leaves around continued over to Wash and walked back home again via new smithy and Alders Lane, this was a leisure walk in my own time with my dog and partner.

As a dog walker I do one hour group walks mostly, I always do a full hour, I do not include travel time in that. On quieter days I sometimes do even longer walks to tire my clients out, I offer lots of time off leads, all my dogs have great recall, and I cant walk any dogs with any behavioural or aggression issues, its not what I do , I am all about lovely country walks, dogs off leads, enjoying each others company, its been our philosophy since day one !!

I have dog grooming and dog walker friends who often tell me about other dog walkers in our area not doing proper walks, killing time sat in their vans, stood around with dogs on leads while their kids play in a park, i always say just focus on your own business it will show if the dogs are not getting proper walks,

I would actively encourage people to check their cameras or if you don’t have CCTV ask a neighbour to watch what time your dog walker comes and goes !!! why not if your being honest about this then you should have no worries !! I know I don’t ! Our industry is unregulated so to some degree their is a lot of corruption going on, if your doing this as a job to make as much money as possible in my book in my view you are wrong.

remember to find us on Facebook to follow our adventures I am blogging a lot less these days, works busy and I think iu am mostly promoting the business via social media, I am just focusing on the things I know work at LHH provide great quality walks, looking after dogs and cats like they are my own !!!

Fridgey
